Don't want to keep piling on Molinaro since I like him as well. But here's a portion of the offending exchange. More so that there's people (@botwblood wasn't the only one) explaining the rule to him, but him digging in on it.

Yeh, I'ma gonna give a pass to the one guy that actually covers the team well if he goes off on a tangent about an MLS roster rule.

How much is Jozy on the books for this year?

Really surprised we protected both Bono and Westberg while leaving Lawrence unprotected. Might be a deal agreed somewhere.

He was on 3.6 the season that just ended. Gotta think it is around that ballpark in 2022.

But, yes. Let's get off the Molinaro train. He is a good writer and seems like a good guy. We got a lot of big things coming and I look forward to the coverage and our discussions on here.

Chances of a member of the current roster being with the team for the first game of 2022

    Bradley - 100%

And then there is everybody else

Bono must have a no-trade clause. Only explanation for him being protected. He makes far too much money to warrant being protected. Either that, or there actually is some interest in another team acquiring him.

Oh yeah, totally, I didn't have a problem with his misreading of the rules. I only appealed to Sam and Paul, because if anyone is viewed as authoritative it's them.

I found it funny that Tannenwald was misinterpreting the rule as well. So John is not alone in that. The rules on the website are also a mess. It is more of a general explainer than legal document.

I'm going to caulk this one up to him having a bad day. He's normally pretty good with details.

I'm gonna wager his stint away from covering MLS as left him a bit rusty on the rules and regs.

John is a good reporter. He rarely dabbles in rumours and transfer speculation, but rather focuses on tactics and getting to know the players. I am really happy I subscribed to TFC Republic!

Sure, he was wrong yesterday, but MLS roster rules are complex and perhaps he can be forgiven for making a mistake.

He seems to write articles about how things need to change and follows them up with how guys like Jozy and Bradley are great and should stay.
Yeah the worst part of the whole exchange is multiple people corrected John, providing explanations, screenshots, interpretations, etc. and John didn't budge, then Sam Stejskal simply said exactly what everyone else was saying and John said "Oh ok Sam, thanks for explaining".

I don't mind John, but he's pretty vanilla. I don't think I've learned much from him over the years, but I do appreciate his contribution to soccer in this country. I also find his hatred of baseball really weird.

Back onto transfer news, there’s some rumours that Tottenham is interested in bringing Insigne onboard.

This would make more sense. Bill Manning is no Tim Leiweke.

That rumour has been around for a bit, feeding off the fact that Tottenham doesn't have a striker.

Also the Italian connection with Spurs new technical director coming from Juve and Conte.
The original source of the rumour is apparently a low tier news paper in Italy, so may not be worth putting much weight on.

Except Tottenham is no top football team and won't pay out the money needed to sign Insigne. He would have to accept cut rate pay to play on this cut rate team.

They have a striker, only problem is he doesn't want to be there and no-one will pay what his club want for him. Levy was greedy and naive in the summer, he thought coming off Kane's exploits in the Euro's, he could get 150 million quid, City offered 100 million. Now he has a striker whose heart isn't in it and his numbers are down. If he sells him now he won't even get the 100 million he turned down.

As I said, they have no striker.

Listening to the WTR podcast they do and Michael Singh mentioned that TFC is working hard at signing an Italian defender which would line up with a post a guy made here about Criscito coming in from Genoa.

^ Canadian MNT players are going to be marketing gold in 2022. I don’t know what the intersection of that with BB interests/priorities might be, but this is a once in a lifetime marketing opportunity.

I am calling it now, I expect Delgado to get traded for Alistair Johnston.

And Adekugbe on the other side?

That would mean Laryea goes [wherever] & so does Lawrence, no?

I can't imagine Adekugbe coming to TFC. He's played nearly every minute this season for the number 3 team in Turkey. They're in a Europa (Conference?) league spot right now and one point off of a Champions league place. He apparently moved to Turkey for a fee of around $500k and his performance has only improved. Can't imagine we want to pay a fee like that for him.

Well, if the choice is between a 35 year old Italian defender playing for Genoa or a 35 year old Italian attacker who has been out of contract since July, the choice seems clear.

Just say no to ancient Italians.
