But are the contracts held by the league or by the club. MLS Next Pro contracts are held by the club I believe. This tweet seems to imply the club had player contract options and exercised despite them switching leagues

As that tweet suggested those players could have been released. Every pro league has a standard contract and it still has to be filed with the said league. It has to be compliant with league rules etc.

I was talking about Franklin. The other poster said he'd need a new contract be a use its a new league. My point with that tweet was that TFC2 picked up all those options (besides those five) meaning Franklin wouldn't be a free agent and still a TFC player
