It's going to be a shame if Perez loses his job after this season. I don't know how much more he could've done with our roster and personality issues but he has, at the very least, turned the second half of the season into less of an embarrassment and gotten the kids some time.

You are right, and I like him a lot. But. Is he really the right guy?

Imagine giving the guy who scores in the academy, USL-1, and USL-Pro a chance to score a goal in MLS.

    Novel concept

Good stuff. The team actually looked better after those three halftime subs.

Lots of positives to take from that game, despite a lot of the errors. Dunn was dependable. Perruzza demonstrated his ability as a poacher as our 3rd striker next season. Okello looked good. Nelson had his ups and downs, but had a great pass to Dwyer to set up the goal. Perez has done a good job of settling down the team in the stretch run. I don't know if he should be the coach next season, as we can really spend some money on a coach, but I hope he can be back as a top assistant and get his shot later on.

Lol should be the embarrassment that is the TFC attendance for most of this season , I doubt we’ve had more than 1000 a game most games this season . Even when if there was 22000 there tonight still a lot better than just friends and family at TFC games this season , TFC attendance has been a complete embarrassment by far the worst in the league it’s not even close , how about we stop making comments on other teams attendance when ours has been totally embarrassing!

I agree that TFC's attendance has brutally sucked especially after the end of the summer. But that's a separate issue from Atlanta publishing such an obviously false number, it's embarrassing. Why did you see that as a comparison to TFC's attendance anyway, a bit sensitive perhaps? Two different things can be embarrassing in different and unrelated ways.

And if you really want to compare, if TFC was still in a playoff race, their attendance would have been better than Atlanta today. Especially if TFC had an indoor stadium and no weather issues as an extra excuse.

EDIT the last thing was false: Atlanta actually kept the roof open today despite some rain.

Personally wondering why anybody in Toronto is really even concerned about attendance here, let alone thinking it means anything. None of us have to go to any games unless we want to - everything is opt in.

And...covid still exists (unlike people in the UK & the States who seem to think its gone so why not go around everywhere)

Lets see what uptake is like next season when you either buy a membership or look for a ticket on the day.

Watched the goal a few times now & that was a result of how ATL likes to play.

They have everybody back at first for the FK (quickly taken after put down again btw).

Then, when the ball goes out from their defenders, all their forwards rush out quickly in case there is a counter (JMR actually begins to drop back seeing it while Shaff runs hard in) & all their defenders go right to the 18 to put pressure on the return & hopefully start a counter. Well that certainly creates a lot of pressure on the ball back in because if its wrong they are off to the races quickly. BUT, if the ball is back in, their discipline of getting to the line doesn't allow them to notice anybody behind them.

Its a good ball in from Nelson & a good instinctive header back across from Dwyer. And Peruzza buries it. He's wide open because they forget to watch for the man.

Its a GREAT poacher's goal - taking what they give you.

Gotta give Dwyer some love. Excellent header, perfectly placed.

With all the young guys thrown in, TFC played surprisingly good except defense/defending, which of course was horrible (Atlanta should have won with at least 4 goals), and was horrible all season.

I am tempted at this point to suggest something totally crazy:
In the offseason invest all your effort in bringing new players exclusively for defense (including goalkeepers), which needs a 100% overhaul except Lawrence, Auro and Richie!
And do not bring anyone new who has profile from defense up the field.

Yeah, we lack badly a good center forward, but we were so shit the whole season because of the utter shit defense.
With a strong defense and the same so and so attack performance we would be a solid playoff team.

(But of course this will never ever happen, first because bringing in no matter how good defense guys, will not put more bums in the seats at BMO field.)

His back problems might prevent that. I wonder if we had a new GM & manager that brought in a good physio staff instead of what we have now if they could work on him and turn it around. Currently our physio team is obviously terrible. Same injuries over and over.

I think you are right. Maybe address the Pozuelo / Soteldo skill overlap, but otherwise get solid at the rear as the first and only priority

Is his back issue chronic or was it a strain that just took a while to get over?

I think they called it 'recurring' but that could just mean he re-strained it. Given how regularly he played prior to this year I would tend to think the latter, just a temporary thing.

Either way, with our current medical/physio team it, much like everyone else's strains, will always be recurring.

But you could argue that it has to happen because a steady defense will mean more wins which will in turn put bums in the seats as people hear the TFC is a good team again.

How has Dayne St. Clair been doing this year? He might be a good target for a new keeper.

I know it's not everything but I remember watching this video they put out earlier in the season- red reflections https://youtu.be/xkVSdNNhz6E and it was one of the sports therapists history. Not that you can't change professions and he does have his masters in sports therapy but he started out going to school for agriculture.
Also reminds me one of the trainers running on the field earlier this year and he pulled up with probably a "lower body" injury himself when going to help someone that was down on the field.

While Covid still exists, I do not think you can use it as the reason for the TFC attendance. It is pretty simple, the team is not very good and the fact everything has been an opt in , even when capacity went back to 100%. The Jays in the push to the post season got the crowds in their final 6 games with a 30 capacity limit. People go when the team wins.

MLSE could have just activated everyones tickets for the final 5 games when capacity limits were removed if the wanted too but kept it as an opt in thing. Montreal on the other hand, were not so gracious, they took your money for the rest of the reason and everyone had their tickets if they wanted them or not. 2022 will be more telling though when people have to decide if they want to keep their tickets or not. That will tell the real story on where things are.
