That was a good half. Guys just honestly have to turn their efforts to trying to score as opposed to always looking for the next pass.

Team needs to start putting balls towards goal instead of looking for that open spot.

Buchanan is good but he has not made the right pass that would have put a teammate in - twice

LOL, better stats than Pozuelo so far this season. 2 goals; 4 assists; 10 shots on target, 26 fouls suffered.

Is Marky really an "older" vet though? He's surprisingly only 26. Feels like he's so much older because he's been around so long. He's had a rough season, but I feel for him since he hasn't had the chance to play in one spot consistently this year.

He was at his best though that championship year where his role was to take a pass from Bradley and pass it to Vazquez. That's his best role in my mind, that middle man to connect between A and B, not to be the creator himself or other primary spot.

Soteldo is having a poor game. Has to happen sometimes. He’s also 23; I imagine Perez will talk to him about playing it a bit more simply, creating for others instead of trying to do it himself.

edit: Also, Delgado is playing fucking great tonight, minus the dumb shot at the end. He’s no worry.

Aside from Soteldo our only other issues were Zavs being a big decision shaky and Richie defending lazily. He really doesn’t try too hard to close guys if he can’t make a tackle, but that discounts the value of interfering with delivery etc

btw.. I love Buchanan but this is TFC, not the Canadian Men's Team. BE A TFC COMMENTATOR

In our (non) defence, we probably never would have done the leg work to develop Buchanan Arena did. We would have just drilled him to the bench then asked why he was never ready. They stuck with him through 3/4 a season or so and man-o-man the dividends are huge.

The Dorsey pick is Sam Bowie-esque

Move Oso to Delgado’s spot and sub in a speedy winger on the right side. Maybe even Auro+Laryea on the right.

Forget about VAR, it’ll only go against us, it’s gonna be that way I guess.

I really wish Caldwell would take a coaching job somewhere. Anywhere but here, as long as it keeps him too busy to be a commentator.

I think Soteldo coming in and not necessarily "destroying MLS" is a testament to the improved quality of MLS and not a knock on Yefe. This league is much better than it was when Giovinco came in and ate defenders for lunch.

It would rally benefit us if Zavs was more decisive and just put a foot through the fucking ball occasionally, instead of dallying until we’re being pressed, or turning and passing it back to Bono.

Sure but Buchanan was already clearly > Dorsey coming into the league. We fell into some bullshit about leadership and character based on pre-draft interviews. Which is great and all, if we hadn’t overlooked that player actually doesn’t have the requisite talent to play in the league.

I guess that's the same reason we got if Mark Anthony Kaye too, right? Attitude issues? Maybe we overvalue that organizationally.

Delgado has had some great passes this game, including one to Achara that should have been a goal. He's consistently one of the few that's willing to do one-touch passes. They are higher-risk, but they don't slow our game down like many of our other players, and they are high-reward which often work very well. (Including the interception/one-touch-pass which led to our MLS-Cup winning goal.)

Check Delgado's player stats for this game so far, at https://www.mlssoccer.com/competitio...-14-2021/stats
His pass completion stat so far this game is decent, not perfect but better than some others.

The more detailed player stats after games often show Delgado playing very well, despite the occasional problematic giveaway.

Pozuelo and Soteldo really have to step up. Some other games they have looked good.

Exactly my thoughts watching that LOL

After that play where he booted into the other guy's back for a (wrongly called back) own goal, I hold my breathe anytime an opponent is within 10 feet of him and he has the ball at his feet.

IIRC with Kaye, he forced the issue. Basically said give me a bigger role or I’m out, cause I don’t see a path to the first team now the way this is going. Not sure if we jettisoned him cause of his attitude but we clearly weren’t buying into the potential.

My main criticism of this team when it comes to developing talent is we turn to 5/10 vet options when we could gamble on youth, particularly in attacking roles. Too many late game subs for Nick DeLeon types… He doesn’t make many mistakes but he also will never develop to more than he is today or provide any upside.

Why are guys (Achara earlier; now Pozuelo) running DIRECTLY next to Soteldo to receive a pass?

But Mullins alone? Why not overlap with Achara for 10 minutes? Mullins alone vs. this defence is hopeless.

I'm the biggest Delgado fan you will find, but he isn't who you want that ball to fall to.

Bou comes in late with a challenge that could ruin the kid’s career, doesn’t even get a yellow.
