He had a theory as to how to be successful in MLS based on Philly and NYRB but he had neither the experience nor personal skill to convey it. Given that, at our best last season, we walked over Philly 4-0, it seems just a poor theory. If a team can control the clock and the ball, pressing all or most of the time is a reductive strategy, taking away the clock advantage to create more “close” chances.
But… we,have a budget by MLS standards. So it was a dumb idea.
I posted after his first presser that his demeanour and body language conveyed nervous energy, not confidence and control. Personality is everything to a football manager. I sure as shit couldn’t do it, and Armas didn’t seem suited to it either.
