Lol at the thought of some guy in Naples randomly getting interested in real estate and thinking "hmmm.. Toronto could be a great place to invest. I'll have to get my agent to hook me up with MLS executives to help me in this endeavour. They are well known for their real estate prowess"
Also, this meeting was supposedly attended by Bill Manning. Good chance he flew all the way to Italy to tell him all about an apartment building for sale in Markham.
Maybe Bill went for some authentic pizza?
And since Bill is Italy, he should visit Pirlo’s winery too.
Insigne would definitely help me forget about Piatti
Womp Womp.
I hate that we play in a small elephant cemetary.
Regardless of if Insigne actually comes, the fact that Manning is chasing a guy of this magnitude shows serious ambition.
Coffee will be very important when Insigne arrives. He will insist on only the best espresso.
I was thinking about this earlier. Would you rather?
1. Buyout/sell/trade one senior DP and replace with a young DP plus 3 U22 players
2. Buyout sell trade one or two senior DPs and replace them with one or two senior DPs plus 1 U22 player
I started to ponder this after reading this https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/how-t...ng-mls-rosters and the Insigne stuff breaking.
I think my preferred approach would depend on who is the GM.
This version is different from what the papers in Naples were reporting yesterday, which was:
-- His agent was Seba's agent and helped him move to Toronto. But the meeting was with MLS representatives, not Toronto specifically. It was worded to sound more like the league was trying to sign him. Manning may have been there due to his prior experience with the agent, rather than it being to bring him here.
-- He apparently IS interested in going to MLS because of Giovinco's experience and a willingness to pay.
-- He turned down a four-year contract extension.
-- Man United has discussed a $7-million a year contract but no word on length.
Also, Milan papers are still reporting they are interested in Soteldo, as a winger. Maybe they see a multi-player, multi-team move in this.
Lots of rumors about Soteldo going back to Brazil. Regardless of if it is true, it is kind of disturbing that there is so much smoke around a guy we just signed.
I have watched Napoli for years and I would be totally shocked if Insigne was to come here. He is still a key contributor, captain and starter every game for Napoli. Might as well get Koulibaly while we are at it too then.
And when factor in the upcoming World Cup (and provided Italy qualifies), you’d assume a move to the MLS could jeopardize a spot on the team.
Normally, I'd agree with that, but considering he'd be most likely joining in the summer window (July 2021) and with the World Cup beginning in mid-November and camps probably starting beginning of November, with the Serie A usually starting last week of August, he'd basically only lose ~2 months (Sept/Oct) of a Serie A season. I could see a callup still happening because he didn't miss much Serie A time. Seba got a callup and caps his first bit here, when he was still being judged on his Serie A time. Could also do a sign-and loan where he joins us for 2022 and is on loan through December in Europe. (All in all though, I doubt this rumour comes true and he comes here)
You're not wrong about the desperation or the spectacle of it but I do have to say... as long as he was coming in with the proper mindset, it really would be Giovinco redux. There's not a player in the world more similar to Giovinco than Insigne, they're almost identical players. He'd instantly be the best player in the league and start winning us games alone just like Seba did.
