Hoillet had the game winner for Reading yesterday against his old club. He's still a fine player at 31. If we can get him on a TAM deal next year, he'd offer at least as much as Piatti did. Reading have him on a one-year deal.

He scored from twenty yards out, which we've done exactly once this season, lowest in MLS. All but one of our goals has been from inside the box. Nothing says offensively challenged like a team with no natural strikers and no midfielders who can shoot.

Yeah. I think some of our midfield needs to change. I don’t care who it is but Osorio, Delgado, and Bradley collectively as a group do not provide the right support or balance to the attack. We don’t shoot from distance. Rarely do we split the lines. Only Osorio is a regular threat to score.

I look at what Seattle gets out of Joao Paolo and think we’d benefit a lot from someone like that. Or an outright box-to-box mid with high end offensive capability.

I think you are right. He hasn’t wanted to be here during Covid and you cannot blame him.

It's the Frings game plan all over again. Frings was "week to week" but in the end spent months in Europe while they worked out his deal (in his case an insurance buyout)

Probably he'll say 90% usual platitudes and excuses for this disastrous season, and 10% hints for next season.

There was a photo of Poz at training this week (same with Jozy). It's not like Poz has jet set off to Europe, not that I would blame him if he did. He's spent like 1 week of time with his child that was born a year ago. It must be kind of lonely.

So I've been thinking about next season and what we could possibly look like and I'm curious what you guys think. My main idea is that we should use Altidore's DP spot on a CB (and get another MLS-worthy CB) and play primarily a 3-5-2. We already have enough midfielders, and I like Achara and Akinola as our options up top. Here's what I'm thinking:

    ------Achara/Akinola------
    -Solteldo (Shaff)--Poz--Richie-
    ---------Delgado--Osorio---------
    -Lawrence (Mavinga)-New CB-New CB-

Every time a DP is injured & out for more then 3 weeks, the assertion rises "oh they want out". Same thing happened with Seba.

This is true. Also that he and Soteldo are too similar - 1+ 1 = 1.5 rather than 3

    I would do this

    Shaf—new DP—Solteldo
    Osorio—New—Delgado
    Lawrence—new—new—Auro
    ————-New—————-

I know that looks crazy because it’s literally the full spine of the team but I think it’s what we need.

Up top: Achara is no starter IMO. Shaff is if he keeps playing like this but we should have other options / depth. That’s where the youth and Akinola come into play. Otherwise, need that DP option to give us the best shot at goals

Mid: I think you see if Priso can pick up form. Otherwise, you need to get in the market. Bradley = not a every week starter anymore.

Defence. Auro has really cleaned up his act, I would keep him in. I would sell Richie (think he wants to try Europe anyway) and use the money to bolster the team elsewhere. Think we all agree on the CB situation 😂

GK: this goes under the radar but we could do a lot better than Bono. Westberg getting up there, think he’s a great mold for us to find in someone younger.

    Offseason needs:
1-2 CBs (depending on if Lawrence moves to CB permanently)
a depth LB to replace Morrow
    a DP Striker
    another midfielder

    Reality:
-Curtis will sign a couple TFC2 kids - probably Luca Petrasso (LB) and Kobe Franklin (RB)
-He'll say Pozuelo and Altidore are basically two new additions since they missed most of the season
-Signs a random bench free agent midfielder

    * Signs a random bench level, former fringe USMNT, free agent midfielder who can play all over but be mediocre everywhere like DeLeon.

And resign Gonzalez and give raises to some of the squad's dead weight.

Lawrence isn't moving to CB. people need to get this out of their head. That would be a huge waste of talent and would be a lazy move by FO instead of going and finding proper CB's

To your second point - See above

    DP striker - agree

Another Midfielder - our midfield is stacked. I guess if you want a DM sure, but I think the Delgado Oso double pivot could work just fine. We have too many guys right now.

Sorry but this Poz thing is not exactly some sort of predictable or boring form of hyperventilation.

Poz does not have a long term injury, has hardly spoken in public, and when he has, he has barely said anything.

He has really hardly been around the team, for months.

As I said earlier, if it rhymes with anything, it's the Frings episode, where Frings went week to week for months, and everybody involved was hiding the reality.

they announced during the Chicago game that he has injured quadriceps, which are easy to reaggravate, and which can definitely count as a long term injury.

As for Kemar Lawrence, he filled in several times at CB in NY. But beyond that, he’s a stay-at-home fullback, a defensive specialist. If anything he’s better suited on a team that plays with wingbacks to play centrally. He’s not a wingback, he’s a true fullback, which is likely why he platooned the position in Belgium.

He’s never going to be a speedy overlap player who gets back, or a great provider of service. With the way the league is going tactically he wasn’t the smartest choice (and we overpaid, given that he wanted back and wasn’t an everyday starter there).

He would be very good indeed if we went to a 3-5-2 as the left of the 3

He is still training with the team but hasn’t been playing, even with TFC2. About a month ago he tested positive for COVID, so I’m sure that impacted things too. I think his contract is up after this season. Hope he can catch on somewhere and get playing time. He seems like a nice guy with a good attitude just didn’t have the skills and struggled to get opportunities.

^Yes, when I saw the stories about the Oso stories in the Mexican papers Friday, it got me wondering whether Oso gets sold to Liga MX this off season. I hate to say it, but I would be happy for him if that happened…

Jozy will get bought out this off-season. I don’t there’s much doubt about that. There are three big questions for me going into this off-season and if the club hasn’t already internally answered them then they’re behind the 8 ball imo:

    1. Do you fire Ali Curtis?
    2. Who is the coach?
    3. Do you replace Jozy with a DP or a stable of young players under the new rules?

He deserves the shot. A big step in his position, but he deserves it.

You have to have people who can put it in the net, young or old. So far it’s been a weakness for Canada or they would have at least 4 more points. DeRo, Dafoe, Koevermans, Jozy, Seba and to some extent Poz are our list in 14 years. We haven’t developed a striker although Jordan Hamilton showed signs of the touch needed at times. It’s hard.
