Default TFC Footy Talks with Chris Armas

Anyone else join the online event last night Footy Talks along with TFC Coach Chris Armas?

I thought was a cool that they had him on and he let us know more about what he'll bring to us.

My overall thoughts were that I think he'll do well with us.

He recognized the team's previous success, knows the players, as well gave a shout out to BMO atmosphere and the fans being on a different level.

    Got to love that.

Good luck Chris Armas, were with you.

    ALL FOR ONE!

I was in the call, and I appreciate how enthusiastic he sounded about working with our team. The fact that he mentioned integrating younger players in is also something that I'm looking forward to (especially Priso and Okello).

Still, I'd rather see what he's about on the pitch than listen to it on a vodcast. We've heard him say how he'll approach his work at TFC; now, I want to see what it looks like for us.

Thanks for the info. Just gonna throw out that it is Chris Armas* though. Someone must have Bruce Arians on the mind.

I was on the call too and I thought he handled himself pretty well. He seems very enthusiastic and I am excited to see how this pans out.

I guess let’s give Armas a chance then that’s all we can do for now. In this time of Covid it would have been difficult to get say a name coach with some pedigree to come over here. For this team to have a successful season this team needs some of the youngsters to step up and have a bit of an impact and hopefully with the expected playing time I see some of these youngsters getting this year one or more will make a difference which would be nice.

i was excited to listen to what he had to say.

What i understood before losing interest:
    1) dont expect any new DP or star players
    2) expect young guys to play a lot more- similiar to red bulls
    3) sounds like he will play press + high energy
4)part of the old boys club
    5) sounded like he was paying attention since end of season beginning of playoffs ( would be annoyed if they all knew and all the other interviewed coaches was all for show)

I lost interest the minute he brought up hockey- felt like a cheap play to endear himself to the fans- talking about new york hockey -who knows what is point is but i dont want to be viewed as a hockey fan watching soccer

Do not think it was a cheap ploy at all, he grew up on the island in New York during a pretty high time for the Islanders, 4 straight cups, it's pretty genuine in my eyes to me.

Am i just reading this out of context? Haven't listened. But that's pretty radical news, isn't it?

surely not, the club has been fairly open about the fact the are looking for a new DP since they didn't re-sign piatti.

That Islander thing is interesting. I posted something about that long ago. There are similarities between the Islander fan base in NY and TFC in Toronto.

Small, niche, small TV market, most people don’t care, but those who care, really really care, and really know their game. Super fun, super hard core.

    Just a sample

If he sees us as just like Islander fans, we will understand each other.

    Pure speculation on my part.

Given how they want to integrate youth and give them opportunity i don't see how they can do both .

    It's contradicts everything they said.

I would like a DP to signal they mean business- with ali's track record and the fact the hiring seems more relationship based than merit based

    Led me to this assumption.

PSA - I'm no insider, and know nothing except my own thoughts -

one dp wont significantly limit the development of our youth players. in fact playing alongside a higher calibre of player can only be good for them.

noting the borre rumours and the 4.1 USD salary we've apparently offered, it seems a good bet that we'll bring in one a fairly high calibre dp (borre or someone else).

Being an Islanders fan for along time I can relate and understand where Armas is coming from.

    I personally love it.

Let's give him a chance and our full support.

He'll definitely give us everything he can.
