SUM has the US rights to LigaMx, ElTri & CONCACAF. Losing the USMNT & USWNT is a drop in revenue growth, not a loss. There are no local MLS contracts past 2022 right now.

Speculation is SUM/MLS is going to bundle LigaMX with MLS as one big contract for one company to stream/broadcast english language rights.

Not sure the ramifications for Canada where OneSoccer/CSA has CONCACAF and currently has LigaMx. If ESPN were to get MLS, TSN would likely get it as well. But I'm having problems imagining MLS/SUM cutting out one of its partners (MLSE) from a deal.

TSN does a crappy job at streaming things - they don't have enough streams available for the products they own. Rogers/Sportsnet Now seems to have figured it all out.

    Default Dero

I have just finished reading “ DERO my LIFE” listing the trials and tribulations of an ALL -STAR human being and soccer super star.
Written in conjunction with Brendan Dunlop this was so brilliant a read, not just about the game, but a lot of the background that we as supporters have lived through here at TFC.
When you read about the dynamics of the woeful atmosphere of the early years and also the old boys network that to this day run Canadian Soccer you just cringe.
Every true TFC supporter as well as fans across this country should read this book!
In the years that I spent coaching here, politics and egos stopped you at every turn from trying to improve the quality for youngsters. I sincerely tip my hat to DERO for his continuing belief in and efforts towards helping the younger generation.

Interesting thread about the role of supporters groups & clubs marketing

    2 points for TFC

    a) content is key but can't only be driven from within
    b) good point about college football in the US - people follow it not because its the best but because they "belong" to that college (even if they or family never went to that college)

Luke Singh called up to the Trinidad national team. Guess he's committed to them and no chance he switches to Canada now

Apparently they approached Nick De Leon as well, as his father is a former T&T international.

    Interesting

    https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/mls-a...d-roster-guide

Inter Miami had 5 DP's last year - HUGE fine in terms allocation $ taken away for 22 & 23.

Man who masterminded it suspended until end of 2022 - he is now with Atlanta.

Edit: they just let him go

Update re the mastermind according to Atlanta United
    https://www.atlutd.com/post/2021/05/...atlanta-united

Effective May 27, 2021, Atlanta United and Paul McDonough, vice president of soccer operations, mutually agreed to part ways. A search for his successor is underway and McDonough’s duties will be handled on an interim basis by team president/CEO, Darren Eales.

    Updated from Inter Miami
    https://www.intermiamicf.com/en/post/2021/05/28/statement-managing-owner-jorge-mas-response-mls-sanctions

Inter Miami CF Statement from Managing Owner Jorge Mas:
Inter Miami CF acknowledges that the Club violated Major League Soccer’s roster rules in our first season.
We have worked closely with MLS to address these issues and have made significant changes in our management structure. Following our inaugural season, we took a deep look at our soccer operations leadership group and made decisions that not only strengthened our internal roster compliance measures, but also better positioned us to build a sustainable, long-term competition strategy with the hiring of Chris Henderson as Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director in 2021.
Inter Miami is an ambitious Club with big aspirations. We believe our fanbase, market and ownership group propel us to be one of North America’s most-followed fútbol teams in the world. We are committed to supporting our team and building a roster we are proud of.

Holy shit. That's basically equivalent to a $2M fine AND a $2M cap hit. Wow.

They hid two dps and overpaid three other players.

Atlanta must be feeling embarrassed for having hired the guy now suspended for doing it. I wonder if they'll can him. Edit: Never mind, too slow, he's already gone.

Nice of Miami & Atlanta to point out it could always get worse

(If you can find it, the recent Athletic article about Tato Martinez & Carlos Bocanegra points to an organization in big trouble - and now all they have in their office is Bocanegra & Eales)

Kind of required reading. Helps understand the backdrop on the Crew rebranding attempt, and a whole lot else.

Trinidad being eliminated from the WC & in disarray administrative wise would be a good reason not to commit to that team at this point.

Great goal. And interesting how the left footer froze the goalie to the line before crossing for Zavs. What a header
