A piece on Marshall-Rutty that says Manchester United, Juventus, Manchester City, Porto and, Bayern are all tracking him/have eyes on him.

Not the greatest look to kick things off in Charlotte. You are playing in a NFL stadium with seats to spare for god's sake. Fans priced out? Charlotte FC’s cheapest season ticket seats are most expensive in MLS.

    2 interesting tidbits

The next most expensive seats in the league - Austin (Precourt FC)

St. Louis refuses to go down the route of seat licences.

    *******

I think the Charlotte people have no clue how much papering they are going to have to do if they don't sell those seats.

Sounds like a recipe for failure. The only reason NFL stadiums are useful to this league is for launching new teams and selling cheap tickets to create a broad based appeal. Guess they missed that memo.

Honestly just do something on the north end please. Even something like Boca Juniors has on that one end with all the boxes would be cool.

I still think the north end gets rebuilt for WC 2026

On a sad note, Sacramento seems out of it for the #30 MLS team. Their sugar daddy - sorry - main investor has backed out. Rumour on twitter is stadium costs got too much.

Speculation the replacement might be Phoenix or Vegas.

If it's Vegas, then think of the road trip we can go on! Especially if it kicks off the season!

TORONTO FC, 2017 MLS CHAMPIONS!!! (Still the greatest in league history!)

It's a nice stadium, went there for a game back in 2018 when TFC played Orlando. It's got good facilities.

The Raps bubble in Tampa has totally broken down. 11 players and coaches out tonight. Suspect that may be playing a part.

You'd think groups of people that went through stringent bubble situations for months on end would know better.

Somebody in Raptors management there did not take the maintenance of protocols seriously, let people of a certain level within a certain workgroup get away with stuff & its biting them on the arse. Covid doesn't care about your internal status within a company. I'd like to think TFC's internal management & culture is better then that but you never know.

A WHOLE lot of the issues in North America related to mask use come down to Alpha male behaviour, and sports teams are filled with alpha males.

    That doesn’t help!

Tampa a bit bigger than Orlando, but has 3-4x the cases they do. Orlando much more of a gated community area generally, so easy to see how the team might feel they can set up there and have some ability to influence/control players in off hours.

Interesting article on how teams are using data.

One interesting tidbit is that a lot of teams aren't taking shots outside the box as much, because the odds of those going in are low.

So, we complain about how TFC tries to walk the ball into the net... well, closer to the net you are, better odds of an goal.

Taking a shot outside the box isn't only to try and score - A well taken shot on the ground can also be used to get a rebound.

    Sure.
You do need a balanced approach that takes in all the variables, such as taking rare shots from outside the box to keep the opposition from crowding the box.

But factoring in a lucky bounce that might fall on one of your player isn't something you should be taking into account when you're designing tactics. The whole point of data based approach is to eliminate or attempt to control as many variable as possible to produce the highest amount of quality chances to score.

On the Miami thing - some interesting speculation here that the rest of the league is ticked off at Beckham

I get that - and I hope footy doesn't get to the level of control that baseball has gone to.

Too late. Data driven decision making has been part of football for a while now. And esp with COVID's effect on economy, teams will be looking for ways to be more efficient with their money. Sifting through data looks way more attractive to find that best bang for buck.

Vancouver is supposedly all in on moneyball.
