    Default 2020-2021 MLS off-season transfers (non-TFC)

    Post any news here.
MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto

Some free agents options out there. I would take...

    - LB/30/Waylon Francis on a reduced salary (currently on $200k)
    - RB/26/Alvas Powell on a reduce salary (currently on $250K)

We need back up options at LB and RB.

The rumor has been floating around for the last day or so, but sources tell @PaulTenorio and I that the Chicago Fire have traded Djordje Mihailovic to the Montreal Impact for $800,000 in GAM. Could rise to $1 million in GAM based on performance incentives.

    Huge, huge sum.
that is big money for a ok player

That does seem a significantly too much. What is it with Montreal and their player acquisition strategy? It’s full of odd ball moves.

I’m surprised they aren’t worse than they are for doing business this way.

Really we can’t evaluate these trades without knowledge of how much GAM there is in the league and in Montreal’s pockets.

Though we do know that in 2020, every team received $1,525,000 in GAM from the league.

Other then trades involving GAM, that's probably all we know about it.

So leaving the Altidore situation aside... How much do we have to spend?

At face value Zavaleta and Morrow have just come off $300k a year and Piatti is out of the DP spot. Sounds like a moderate amount of flexibility.

Also, can GAM be traded across years like draft picks? For example, can the Impact send 400K GAM in 2021, 200k in 2022, and 200k in 2023? Or does it all have to be for one year?

Mullins is also out, which frees up another ~250k. Ciman as well was on 430k in 2019. Also, Delgado signed an extension in June. He was on 250k in 2019, I could see him having doubled that or more.

No idea how much we have with all these convoluted MLS rules, but I'm guessing maybe 400-650k for regular players, not counting the one free DP slot.

Alex Ring moves from NYCFC to Austin for up to $1.25M in GAM ($750k guaranteed, $500k based on performance). The funny money is flying around.

As an extra, it's 500k GAM in 2021 and 250k GAM in 2022. Plus the additional 500k in incentives. This answers my question above that yes, GAM can be split in years

Edwards to LAFC. Nobody understands an under appreciated Canadian like Bob Bradley it seems.

I don't think he's under appreciated now. I think he is overrated in some circles and obviously has some off field issues because he can't even stick on trash teams.

I think you’re probably right, there must be something off the field that makes this guy less appealing.

Reviews in Chicago and Minnesota by fans were essentially the same: does well in limited playing time, good spark off the bench.

Personally, I think he’s a good sub option but maybe there’s not the upper end potential some thought there might be earliest in his career.

(double similes were required to meet the minimum character requirement - and apparently just empty spaces don't count as a "character" )

Rumours on twitter that RAM (random allocation money) and HAM (historic allocation money) coming next year. League debating SCAM (special current allocation money) too.

When we receive e-mails from the TFC marketing dept would they qualify as SPAM?

I wonder if that AAA (something like annual age allocation that someone on these boards in another thread had suggested) ever came to fruition lol

There you go. You might be mixing him up with Ager Aketxe. He never scored

I remember Janson scoring a couple times for us and Caldwell droning on about how he wasn't that good. Which seems to be reserved for mostly Hispanic players now that I think about it.

He was brilliant in the game against Atlanta where we denied them the shield.

I figured he'd be linked to Atlanta. It'd be an easy one for a rumor monger to make.
