    Diamond is narrow by nature.

4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 can use wingers.

Can't you also use wingers in a 4-1-4-1?

He wasn't great there when we were forced to play him as a CB. I can just picture us forcing passes to our CB to get the attack started.

We will see about MB. Those were two tough impact injuries to his foot and then knee, and although he didn't have much pace to begin with, i wouldn't write him off just yet. He is still recovering and if he even regains a touch more movement it could make a huge difference.

That was my recollection too. We were forced to field him in that spot and it went poorly. I dunno if I see that working.

I think it is best to move on sadly

Thanks. So are wingers essentially a special/specific type of midfielder? I ask this because looking at TFC's roster page, it doesn't actually use the term "winger" as a playing position. Who would be the wingers on TFC?

    https://www.torontofc.ca/players

So in the 4-2-3-1 as mentioned (which is what I think TFC typically plays - from the few seconds I see the formation screen on the TSN telecast), for the "3" in it, would it be 2 wingers on the outside, plus the CAM (central attacking midfielder)? Which I guess in TFC's case would Pozuelo (aka the number 10 position?)?

And it's actually a wide diamond that I play on FIFA! Well, what they used to call a 4-4-2 diamond is now called a 4-1-2-1-2 in that game, with narrow and wide options available.

Diamond midfields with a big donut in the middle get overrun real quick - nobody playing that style anymore.

Piatti, Gallardo, Shaff, and Nelson I think are true wide wingers, others that do play it look more like inverted wingers or just center mids. Most of the wide plays seemed to come from Piatti on both sides of the field with the fullback helping this season.
