1 point eliminates Vancouver and 3 points guarantees us a minimum of a tie for 1st with Montreal in the Canadian Championship qualifying

A tie in points would still push the Reds through with the head to head.

Tie breakers start with number of wins and don’t include head-to-head.

Whats the 2nd breaker because the only way they could tie us was with both have 4 wins each. Is it Head to Head?

Here's the tie breakers from the whitecaps website
    • Total number of wins
    • Goal difference
    • Goals scored
    • Away goals differential
    • Away goals scored
    • Home goals differential
    • Home goals scored
    • Coin toss (if two clubs are tied) or drawing of lots (if three clubs are tied)

Forget about tie-breakers. Let's just go 6-0 and grab all 18 points

We want to be up by more then 6 points on Montreal after we play our last game. Do not want to rely upon Vancouver to get a result of any kind against Montreal in those last 2 games.

I expect Montreal to try a high press this game - they will have their full squad available including Tadir & Piette. This game will be tougher in the midfield but their defence is going to be tired with 3 games in a week.

A healthy Jozy going at their defence would be useful.

I just want the points. Canadian Championship entry to me looks pretty secure.

Things are going to get a lot tougher when this team has to enter the US and effectively play out the rest of the season on the road.

Agreed. Bank as many points as possible. Love seeing the team at the top of the standings again.

Anyone know how many total games are expected to be played this MLS season? Did they ever announce that? If so I missed it.

I wonder if the Canadian teams are thinking of forgoing going to the US, thus not take the COVID risk that would come with it. Just play a whole number of games between them 3 clubs? In some eyes it may be the better route to take? The big question would be how would the rest of the league think about it?

Phase 2 will be 12 games, thus making it a 23 game season in total.

So that could mean a road trip to Orlando?

Start Ayo and Jozy up top with Pozuelo behind them. Heck why not.

I like it. Although, I would like to see Vanney double down on and make attacking subs more often rather than position the team to defend for the last 20 minutes.

As much at Herdman is a bang-average coach, I think back to the US-Canada game where he played 4-4-2, had Davies and David for 70 minutes then threw on Cavalinni and Hoilett. Their CB’s were completely out of gas and it put the US in position where they either had to waste a sub on defenders when they needed a goal or continually gamble that tired legs could keep up with fresh players. Canada gets insurance goal and it was game over.

When everyone’s healthy, we have enough attacking depth to do this. And to be frank, the backup options in midfield and defence (with the exception of fullback) generally aren’t as good. We should play to our strengths.

Vanney will play it more safe. I could see them each taking 50% of the minutes since both will not be at game fitness. Worst thing would be for them to over extend themselves in first game back after a while and get injured especially with Mullins out. Too bad we didn’t at least have the Achara option but it is what it is. Looking forward to a good game hopefully with some more shots on net and goals compared to last game.

Probably fairly high. Either way I say at best he comes off the bench. Not fair to keep him off his cell phone while working to purchase an opposing team.

Hopefully they get water breaks then he can check his phone for updates and not have to wait until half time or the end of the game. LOL

I really think we are seeing the last month or so of Jozy as a TFC player. His participation in this match will be interesting to see.

Really interesting point, but have to disagree with this one. We have real depth in midfield - Poz, Piatti, Oso, Bradley, Delgado, Fraser, DeLeon are all starting calibre, all have started for us and those not starting can be fresh legs. Plus Laryea can be a wide midfielder, Gallardo exists, and we have two young Canadians who have earned minutes with good play in Florida.

We should really be getting on this trade with RSL. Can't wait until it's final. Once he signals his intent to buy RSL then he should be moved. His head hasn't looked in the game all season and I expect it to get worse if he is working on this. Plus give us some time to find a DP replacement.
