The real fun is if Cinci wins 2-1 and Vancouver won 1-0 - you would have 3 third place teams with the exact same record Chicago/NYRB/NYCFC - 3 points and 2GF and 4GA - time to look at discipline records!!!

(or Cinci wins by 2, and a tie in LAG/Hou or a “close” LAG win)

    Hagglund!

This reminds me of hoping for Cinci to hold on for a result (down 2 men) versus DC to get us a home playoff game....

    YAY!!

This also gurantees TFC to be second in the East coming out of this tournament - should a season exist somehow afterwards for a likely homeless TFC....

That opens up a few chances to potentially avoid Seattle - Chicago ties or loses we avoid Seattle; if LAG/Hou tie or LAG wins by 1 or 2 we also would get NYCFC then (If ABCD third place makes it - Group E third place is already eliminated).

Crazy what one game does. 2 hours ago, I thought it was a certainty we were going to face Seattle. That Cincy win has opened up a ton of possibilities

    So, I worked it out.

If Houston/Galaxy tie or if Galaxy win by 2 or less - we face NYCFC.

If Houston win or Galaxy win by 3 or more - we face 3B

    The 3B will be:
Vancouver if Van wins by 2 or more
Chicago if Van wins by 1 or ties
    Seattle if Chicago wins

Whitecaps in a weather delay. Game paused at 63 minutes. 0-0. Game could be ruled final since it is beyond 60 minutes

Chicago Fire has a CIBC sponsor on their jersey arm. I love how Canadian Banks are starting to take over American teams arena and jersey sponsors. A lot of Americans are probably oblivious to the fact they are Canadian and would be upset to know (TD is the sponsor of Boston's arena, Royal Bank used to be the Carolina Hurricanes arena, probably more)

Vancouver catches a break. Chicago scored but VAR caught that it went off the hand of the striker so no goal. Still 2-0 Vancouver. 87th minute

YAY! -- we might get the Whitecaps in the next round if this holds up (and not Seattle!)!.......Go Portland tonight vs LAFC too - would be happy to see Portland v Cinci as our potential QF opponent too....

Just a shocking result for the Whitecaps considering all they have been through.....3rd string goalie with the Shutout!

    Whitecaps won and clinched 3rd.

Argubly the two worst teams in MLS both won 2-0 in the last 12 hours. Nothing is certain in this league lop

Worst thing to be is overconfident..... Wouldn't have minded getting Seattle out of the way!

I agree about being overconfident. We just witnessed Cincinatti and Vancouver both winning 2-0 in the last 12 hours. Nothing is certain. With that said, I'm glad to avoid Seattle next. I'm not confident with our defending especially late in the second half. A theoretically weaker team next is best in my mind to help us to get back up to speed in that area in my own view.

Guess they'll need to extend the loan of Montreal's third stringer they loaned in to be today's backup. Or Caleb Patterson-Sewell might get told to come back to the bubble. Or we loan our third string keeper Kevin Silva to them.
Those crazy FIFA ITC rules requiring them to only use a keeper who is currently or was last registered with a canadian club lol

Obviously we can lose to anyone (yes, it's sports and anything can happen) - but to say getting the Whitecaps/NYCFC as opposed to Seattle isn't a better "draw" for us is being a little silly - If LAFC wins tonight (or even Portland finishes first) and they play Cincinnati, is anyone really going to be hoping that LAFC/Portland wins and not Cincinnati - please......if you told me two days ago that Toronto's trip to the QF could be Seattle followed by LAFC (two of the best teams in the league last year and likely this year too), or we could get Whitecaps/NYCFC and Portland/Cinci instead.....ummm I would take the latter draw over the former......I have a sneaking suspicion the winner of this tournament is not going to be Vancouver, NYCFC, or Cinci.....maybe I'll be wrong, but I doubt it.....

On a side note - is it confirmed that if Houston wins tonight (or LAG wins by a bunch) and eliminates NYCFC, and B and F are the two remaining 3rd place teams (and not group "A"), there is a 0% chance we get the Houston/LAG qualifier (Group F) and 100% we get Vancouver (Group B). Both available slots list 3B and 3F as options (and 3A for us thereby guaranteeing us NYCFC if Group F third place is eliminated) - can someone explain why B for sure goes to us and F for sure goes to KC if those are the remaining two third place qualifiers?

Yes, it's confirmed. It has to do with the teams not being allowed to play their own group until semis. So only way it works is those outcomes. If we win we could face WinnerF in Quarters, so we can't face 3rdF, because then 3F could play 1F in quarters which is not allowed.

From MLS Website it seems we either play NYCFC or Vancouver depending on outcome of games tonight.

Scenarios for final two 3rd-place berths:

    Scenario 1

The final four wild card slots end up as A3, B3, C3 and D3 (in any order) then ...

    • A3 (NYCFC): vs. Toronto FC (C1)
    • B3 (Vancouver): vs. Sporting KC (D1)
    • C3 (Montreal Impact): vs. Orlando City (A1)
    • D3 (Real Salt Lake): vs. San Jose Earthquakes (B1)

    Scenario 2

The final four wild card slots end up as B3, C3, D3 and F3 (in any order) then ...

    • B3 (Vancouver): vs. Toronto FC (C1)
    • C3 (Montreal Impact): vs. Orlando City (A1)
    • D3 (Real Salt Lake): vs. San Jose Earthquakes (B1)
    • F3 (LAFC, Houston or LA Galaxy): vs. Sporting Kansas City (D1)

Teams who are hot messes remain hot messes and some teams who are just bad are figuring out how to win through adversity.

    Weird

Seattle now set to either play Portland or LAFC - SPICYYY

Houston up 1-0. If it stays as a Houston win, Toronto vs Vancouver. That will be fun.
