Yeah you have to wonder if those "symptoms" were a convenient way for TFC to delay the flight another day.

But I'm also wondering about the number of positive tests for players who tested negatively previously, even from areas where the pandemic is relatively under control. You didn't hear so much about random positive results (after negatives) in all the European leagues that have restarted. A small number early on (e.g. in Germany) but then it quieted down. Part of it is surely that the virus is out of control in areas (e.g. Dallas) but any chance MLS is trying to save a bit of money by using a crappy test routine?

Well Mavinga liking this post connects a lot of dots.
Somebody noticed, looks like Mavinga unliked it again.

And the "oh they're young and healthy, none of them will probably die from it" crowd is warped. Lots of articles in the last few days, from various countries and news outlets, about the large number of people (even those that were young and healthy) that survived Covid-19, but are facing massive long-term health issues, that no health care provider or government has any clue about how to resolve yet. They're forming survivor support groups, comparing notes and finding strange symptoms that are common in these groups. E.g. here's a really scary Twitter thread: https://twitter.com/DaniOliver/statu...55358666305541

Furthermore, that crowd is not accounting for things like diabetics (Jordan Morris) that put individuals at a much higher risk. Some other players have come out and said that they too are high risk without disclosing why - nothing wrong with that but comes to show how uneducated that this "young and invincible" crowd really is.

Safety for the players above all else.

For anybody else still keeping score, Nashville has also been hit with 5-6 positive cases. They are scheduled to play Wednesday as of the time of writing this post. Also several reports of protocol being broken within the bubble.

So... will we name this competition "the Covid Cup?"

As much as I miss watching TFC, the risks seem insane compared to the benefits, given what is happening out there. Any player that doesn't want to participate should be allowed to bow out. I honestly think that it may be wise to cancel the whole thing.

The organization of the tournament in Florida sounds absolutely 3rd rate. They at best did not think this through. The bubble is only as good as the procedures in place to maintain it

Less 3rd rate then what everybody has been dealing with the last few months (As somebody who has been trying to operate a business throughout all this)

    Trial

A mix of error & success

    Fix

Looks like MLS doesn't have a good internal bubble communications system in place - that needs to be fixed pronto

little birdie shared with me that, players arent thrilled and dont care to play in this tournament.

problem of today's society. Anything for money, the corporations are so greedy.

holding on to our seasons ticket money, while they generate additional income.

It is the attitude you take when you are doing an enterprise in the midst of a massively changing situation - this is how all of us individually and all organizations & businesses have operated for weeks (see - masks discussion from March compared to today)

Whether MLS should be doing that enterprise is another matter - I think it's dubious at best & reckless now in Florida. But, like everything else right now, its never going to be perfect. I have some leeway for internal communication errors and the like - that can be fixed. I have no leeway for quarantines that should have been known by now to have to be a certain time.

    NWSL got this right, btw.

There's a story in the demise of Dallas - maybe not Orlando Pride level of stupidity, but something happened.

The bolder statement is correct but the premise of using this logic to describe the story of #MLSISBACK is not.

The league didn’t suddenly find itself in this situation on the way to Florida and then the virus hit. They were shutdown and decided at their own free will to make this tournament. They had an opportunity to think about things like risk / reward and implementation.

Notwithstanding that, once you hit the launch button your logic applies. Implementation will never be perfect. But this is closer to a space shuttle launch than inserting a new hamburger on the menu. You just just throw it out there and say “oops” when it doesn’t work.

I guess they'll shift a team from that 6 team group to replace Dallas in the four team group, then re-jig the schedule for the now 5 team group.

Vanney mentioned something in an interview, about TFC being very careful (individually & collectively) in the days leading up to training and tournaments. And that others weren't so careful - I believe he mentioned going to restaurants.

    I lol'd at this: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/...s-top-priority

MLS intends to play matches in-market after the tournament finishes on August 11th. There's no indication the situation in the worst US states will be any better then. Plus with MLB restarting, NYCFC probably won't be able to play at Yankee Stadium.

I wish TFC, MI, and VFC just said No to the MLS tournament and said that the situation in the United States is too unstable.
Then reach an agreement with the CSA and Cpl to play in the Cpl for this season. Probably would've had to make some concessions like no DPs or max 1 DP allowed, and the CPL might not have been in favour, but it would've been great to just show what a ridiculous scenario this thing in Florida is.

That would be way too complicated.

At this point they really just need to shut down the season. The US is too out of control.

The only other option I can see is bringing every team to Ontario and playing out the season in various locales. But that's sort of a crazy plan too, because the players aren't going to want to be away from their families for 6 months or whatever.

They should just shut it all down and pick up the pieces next year.

All the teams are now either on the ground in Orlando or in the sky.

    ********

On another note, assuming games are going to happen now, squad becomes relavent

Which leads to this most people seemed to have forgotten - Jozy was only just back out of 14 day quarantine last week.

“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”
