Javier Martina: first game scores a brace. Turns out to be junk afterwards

Rohan Ricketts: lots of tricks that looked good at first, then gets found out

Alen Stevanovic: same as Ricketts, except he gave up when Maicon Santos didn't pass him the ball and a chance went begging.

Pablo Vitti: lots of talent, but probably most snake bitten striker in TFC history
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

Gilberto has a claim there too. I swear he hit the post at least 10 times that season

Cooper is on a very short list of players who played for TFC and started a game at a World Cup.

The easy ones are Bradley, Altidore, Frings and Cesar. Plus Cooper.

But I can think of at least one more that started ...

If we include players who didn't start but played, I can think of at least one other...

If we include players named that didn't play, I can think of at least one more ...

    Go.

    Go.
Jermain Defoe, Greg VdW, Maurice Edu definitely started WC matches

Jeremy Brockie? I know he had a few caps for New Zealand but can't remember if he played at the World Cup.

Pretty sure Beitashour was part of an Iranian WC squad.

Knew he didn't play for us but went down a rabbit hole.

Played 4 times against us, twice for DCU & twice for LAG.

Mista had a lot of hype and even got almost a standing ovation every time he went to take a free kick near the goal. Man we were desperate back then for someone to give us something to cheer for...

Very impressive. Every one of these is correct.

Brockie played a few minutes against Paraguay at WC 2010. Beitashour was named to Iran's 2014 23 man squad but never played.

This is most amusing, as none of these guys is who I was thinking of when I did the post. So there is at least one more out there in each category, folks...

Amado Guevara and Andy Boyens played in 2010. Colin Samuel (lol) played in 2006.

Ciman was on the team but didn't play in 2018. Omar and Herculez Gomez are other "easy ones" that haven't been mentioned here.

I had such high hopes for him. Just never panned out for us.

Very good. Guevara started. Boyens was named but didn’t play. Same for Ciman. I didn’t have Samuel, but you are correct about him. Omar Gonzalez started in WC 2014. Gomez came on as a sub multiple times in WC 2010.

There is by my count still one unnamed guy out there that played for TFC and played in a World Cup game (actually two of them, as a sub both times).

    Wait.

There is yet one more guy that started a World Cup game and played for TFC! Hint: he started two games.

Plus one more that played three games...

    Robbie Findley 2010 WC

    Torsten Frings 2006 WC

Frings was already named. Findley, very good, he is one of the two, started twice in 2010.

One more guy. Twice a sub ... hint: he took a shot that led to an own goal

Convey's free kick against Italy in 2006 was one of the great moments in USMNT history

As much as I didn't like him, VDW was great in the CCL and then went to total trash once the regular season started.
