Have a look at the MLS Defender of the Year results over time.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MLS_De...the_Year_Award
Notice anything?
It's not that Morrow is the only TFC name on this list, although that is impressive.
Every single name is a CB except one. Justin Morrow finished second as an LB in 2017.
In terms of amazing things that got lost in the shuffle, that is right up there.
Morrow is the best TFC defender ever.
If the question is, who was the best TFC in the world based on peak level at another club, that is van der Wiel by a mile.

“What the world needs is more geniuses with humility; there are so few of us left.”
Steven Caldwell needs to be on there. He was the first one to really stabilize our defense and was Captain for a reason. I would put him before Perquis.
Any list is incomplete without Andy Iro
No way was VDW better than Serioux. No way.
I would have O'Dea around 6th or 7th. Better than Perquis/Ciman/Dunivant (just based on play here)
“What the world needs is more geniuses with humility; there are so few of us left.”
Not going to lie - I may have unintentionally put Dunivant as high as I did based on his rep with LA.
I feel like Perquis was more stable in the back than O'Dea.
O'Dea was tough and vocal. He was definitely a good leader for the time, but as someone else mentioned - the goals his back line let in were stinkers at times. And things did look more unorganized Under O'Dea compared to Perquis time. Mind you, the players in front of Perquis were better.
1. Drew Moor
2. Justin Morrow
3. Chris Mavinga
Todd Dunivant was a solid LB for TFC, except he played one season and then was gone for a season then MoJo traded him for some allocation money. One of more terrible trades MoJo made. His quality showed when he won 5 MLS Cups, 2 Supporters Shield, 1 MLS Best 11, 1 US Open Cup
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”
-Eduardo Galeano
Morrow #1.
