Brilliant. Sadly, that play started with the kind of play that too easily opened us up this year, and which with quick ball movement we should be using to cut apart the opposition. The problem was right through our spine, and needs to be corrected. This was the way to have beaten Nashville for example, but instead we were vulnerable repeatedly to balls down the middle.

Has anyone been following the story about MLS and Liga MX getting the green light from FIFA and CONCACAF to combine leagues into one super-league? Is it bullshit or a real possibility?

    I hope it's BS.

Liga MX is good, but I don't think MLS has to skip through the growing process in order to become more competitive. They are on a good trajectory and IMO, don't need Liga MX to continue to do that.

Liga MX see $$ in the US and wants to break in. MLS is their ticket in.
MLS sees better competition with Liga MX - that will bring better players into the league - and bring more $$ into the league.

I don't think a league merger is the best way to satisfy both leagues needs.

Travel would be awful. It's a 5.5 hour flight to get from Toronto to Mexico City. The amount of stress that travel would put on players is huge.

This has nothing to do with MLS wanting better competition. It has all to do with 90% of the most watches games on television in the US being Liga MX. MLS wants to bundle the TV deal and cash in.

Anything else would me marketing spin.

Yup this is true.. But i guess does MLS want people watching their league just for the mexican teams? Or I guess people would be eventually drawn to MLS after watching a bunch of games against their favourite team?

I don't think the later applies.

I really don't think he'll go. He's not going to play both sides against each other.

Everyone listed is confirmed as attending. Nobody is cap tied as a result of showing up. For the undecided, this is simply a way to sell them on the program.

Personally, I think Akinola is likely to stick with the US. There is no guarantee he gets playing time for either country as the quality of the player pools has increased exponentially. Canada would normally be the more sure thing for playing time but (oddly) we have a good number of attacking options coming through the ranks.

Two years ago we would have struggled to hold a camp like this with a huge portion of u23 players without tapping marginal professionals or USL types. Now we have options AND didn’t even have the luxury of everyone who plays in Europe because only some of those leagues will be on break during the time the camp is held.

Herdman said that Ayo promised both countries that he would attend a camp with each before making his final decision and that Ayo kept his word. He took the opportunity with the US friendly not cap tying him to play, while still allowing him to keep his word with Canada.

"He's got big decisions to make. We're very respectful of that," said Canada coach John Herdman. "The one thing he has wanted is that opportunity to experience Canada. There are some big pros and cons for the decision both ways, whether it's the U.S. or Canada.

"We've had a lot of conversations over the last seven, eight months and he's kept his word to come in with us," he added. "We'll just be ourselves and show him what Canada has to offer."

Great. Everyone enjoys a good strike. Can't say I blame the players though.

Maybe by the time the lockout and strike ends Curtis will be done interviewing Olsen and we can move on to candidate #2.
