Default Other MLS Games This Weekend - August 23-25 - Rivalry Weeek

Already a game last night - SKC beating Minnesotta - lesson there is MLS is unexpected

    FRIDAY

Atlanta @ Orlando 8pm- Orlando really does not like Atlanta - Atlanta doesn't even really notice them. Atlanta has the US Open Cup Final this week so might rest a few. What we want? Atlanta win - Orlando is the immediate need - a draw would be better then an Orlando win but 0 points for the Leos would be more useful

Seattle @ Portland 10pm - Big News right now is Timbers Army is planning a "go silent" & a walkout over the politics symbol ban MLS has put in place- this game is on ESPN. What we want? Both teams play NYRB & DCU still - DRAW with no injuries reds or yellows

    Saturday

    NYRB @ NYCFC
7pm - Chance for NYC to create room between them & the Jersey Boys What we want? Again, NYC is probably too far away now to catch. NYC WIN

Chicago @ NER 7:30pm- There has been a slight wobble on NER the last 3 games while the Fire have been doing better. What we want? A draw

DCU @ Philly 7:30pm - 2 teams wobbling of late in the stretch drive What we want? Philly probably too far to catch so Philly win

    Colorado @ RSL
10:00pm - The Rapids are all but out but this is a rivalry game for both teams. What we want? We play the Rapids yet so them losing all hope would be good. RSL win

Vancouver @ San Jose 10pm - San Jose got whacked by LAFC midweek. Vancouver doing OK since Lennarduzzi was moved. What we want? Both teams play a lot of the East still. Draw

With Orlando losing, TFC has a chance to jump both Orlando and Montreal with a win.

33 minute of silence from the 2 supporter groups in the Portland Seattle game - very familiar to the silence of the South that one game a few years ago.

Iron Front Flags ALL over the Timbers Army & in the ECS after that.

And then there is the one TA capo

For anybody complaining about politics in soccer, Nazis bombed my parents & their families & people I worked with lost family up the oven chimneys. So ya'll can just deal with the occasional notice about how this game deals with fascists & those of us not happy with the rise of fascism again. Its personal. Still is. The fact is there are known fascists at NYC games in the supporters sections being protected by both an NYC supporter group & NYC senior management - meanwhile the league bans symbols of anti-fascism. Yup, its got me ticked off. If it means you get a rainbow queer capo from Timbers Army in a thread every once in a while - I'm sure you will survive.

Whoa, just looked up the three arrows symbol. They just threw a gauntlet at the MLS prohibition on mixing the league in politics. I'm expecting some repercussions to come from this, especially if the tweet gets traction.

Crew vs Cincinnati had higher tempers than I've even seen before in MLS. 9 yellow cards and a lot of pushing and shoving after a Crew player tried to hold the ball to delay time in the 88th minute leading 3-1.

Houston is unbelievably bad against Dallas. Terrible marking, impotent offense, lousy positioning.

That tweet is a minor footpoint in all this.

ESPN discussed the meaning of the symbol & the details of the ban/protest before the game.

MLS banned political signage at the beginning of the season. They define what is political. They have been putting pressure on Portland & Seattle to ban it. Portland put out a press release last week basically saying "Yes, we know what the symbol means, and yes we like the ideas but you know...we gotta ban it because the ideas are considered political." Timbers Army blew up at that. When their silent protest ended, at least 6 flags with the symbol were unfurled in their area, and 2 in the Seattle Supporters section. Seattle has made no move to ban the flag.

Somebody at MLS head office thought they could play hard ball with the TA over this one under the cover of Portland management - Timbers Army having none of it. This isn't going to end well for the league.

    Wow 5-1 for Dallas.

This is a good example of what can go wrong when a team fires their coach mid-season. The Houston players body language showed they were just punching the clock.

The league may not be able to back down from this depending on sponsors/political pressure from other sources. If they lay fines/bans against Timbers Army, how will the rest of the franchises/SGs respond?

It’s almost like changing coaches isn’t the fix all solution people think.

Well banning Timbers Army all together isn't going to happen. And I can imagine the ruckus that would be created if they tried to take those flags during matches. More likely is the league backs down quietly saying they need to study things more.

(the various attempts by Republicans to label anti-fascists as a terrorist group are going to be hard to enforce at this level if they ever got enacted in the first place)

I wonder how the MLS offices feel about the pregame photo from the Sounders vs Timbers match? Both teams stood together with anti-fascist/anti-racist banners.

I'm glad supporters groups are fighting back. The league is attempting to control groups in all avenues. They have a lot to learn about world football supporters

Galaxy vs lafc game last night was a treat to watch. Great attacking with some poor defending. Great supporters and a beautifully united south end.

Lafc new 19yr old dp has lots of talent. They are stacked. Vela off in second half with minor hamstring tweak.
