Default Match Day 24 - TFC @ New York Red Bulls - Saturday August 3 6pm - Across the Shore

Yes, I use it every year...mostly because it reminds me of that goal Seba scored.

Columbus went in there and won tonight - not sure that's a good thing for us.

Tom Waits is fantastic. I saw him in 1979 in a movie theatre . Lights went out and immediately all you could see was the glowing end of a cigaret on stage, that turned out to be him - still have no idea how he got there. Incredible concert, best I have ever been to. Half music, half theatre.

For anyone who's been to Red Bull Arena, what is the area like? I'm assuming sketchy. I'm in town for business, so I've decided to stick around until sunday to take in the game. I'll be staying near Newark Penn Station. Any game day events? Pubs within walking distance? Cheers.

It gets sketchier the further away from RBA you get. The area surround the hotel isn't terrible.

THere's a street that runs from Newark Penn Station up towartds the stadium and whgich is full of Portugese and Brazilian bars/restaurants. We went to a number in our TFC shirts pre-game and were received in friendly fashion in all. Between Penn Station and Red Bull Arena is not sketchy. Please shout for me, as I can't make it!

Morgan, Zavaleta, Fraser, Chapman and Akinola are all starting for TFC2 today. I'd wager this means they're likely to have limited involvement vs NYRB.

And likely to be seeing time in Ottawa.

Akinola on short rest - suspect he is subbed at the half for Perruzza.

Tfc2 got beat soundly today, 4-1. Doesn’t look good with so many first team players in there.

No kidding. I think the TFC2 players were better off without the “help”

I think this is exactly the reason Vanney sent them down. They just proved that they play down to to the level of their opponent and lack that 'something' that makes them always try to achieve more. It's probably why Schaffelberg is getting first-team starting minutes and they aren't. I'm kind of hoping they play against the Fury next Wednesday because that's the Fury's best chance to win.

^^ I thought the reason they were all sent down is because that is primarily the lineup you will see in the Ottawa away match and Vanney wanted them to have a game together.

Shaffelburg is getting first team minutes because he's the only one of those players who had nobody ahead of him on the depth chart in their primary position.

Well yes and no. If Vanney really thinks the spot is weak, he drops it from the lineup entirely (like our game with no striker and just Poz up front).

Hypothetically he could be starting both Delgado and Osorio and dropping shaffelburg. The fact he isn’t looks like a vote of confidence to me

Games like this where a bunch of first teamers are dropped in are always a bit of mess. There is little or no feel between these two distinct group of players who dont often play together.

You're not wrong, Shaffelburg's been good and has earned the minute's he's gotten. I'm just pushing back against the suggestion that he's gotten the opportunity because he has some X-factor or superior desire that our other depth/young guys don't.

We've never been a club that places a particular emphasis on making room for young players. Shaff has gotten his chance both because he was good enough and because there were no other true wingers in the side. All those other guys have had better players in identical roles to compete with.

Vanney & TFC Pravda indicated earlier this week that Benezet might play a role.

    Right.

When your wingers are Osorio (who was away) and either Morrow or Morgan, then it isn’t hard for Schaffelberg to get minutes considering Vanney’s preferred formations this year.

It’s not like it requires much effort for a young winger to replace a bunch of non-wingers playing on the wing. He just made the most of the minutes he got and earned more starts. Good for him, sure, but you’re right.

They got the 26 year old Gallardo by accident, not the 22 year old one they actually wanted.

That or a muscle injury in training.
