I think that's a under the table no no. Plus he negotiated with LA only. No guarantee he would even want to come here. Remember what happened with McBride back in the day?

Well the number of players depends on the salary. For example, so it could be they're going after 2 higher salary TAMs instead if 3 lower (ie. 2 at 1.5M instead of 3 at 1M).

Also, another angle could be the vDw situation. If we just released him and paid his salary, that could be using up some of the TAM funds, limiting the available space. Was there any official word if releasing him freed up any salary?

    I agree. This is baffling.

Because there will be a new CBA and new roster rules in 2020. We know zero of what's on the table or where anything stands and they do.

He's also only 28. Why not sign him and let his family find a permanent home if he's already performing and behaving the way you want him.

If we got 100k in TAM/GAM half would go to Cincy to fulfill the Haglund trade. The number 1 spot would be ours free and clear for use however we see fit.

Sounds exactly like what I would have said about Erik Zavaleta in 2017

We got the Galaxy's 1st round pick in the next draft for the top allocation spot (which they have used to sign Gonzalez so we're back to #1).

Not bad, and extra incentive to cheer against the Galaxy. I like it.

must be a slow day when people are complaining about a 28yr year old good mls player getting another 2 years on his contract.btw we got a 1st rd pick from LA.

Exactly and deleon has a solid track record and he can play multiple positions.

At least with the first rounder Cinci gets nothing.

DeLeon was a solid acquisition. Glad they locked him up for a few years.

For me - his presence on the team so far is reminiscent to what Beita was. He's going to give you a solid, no-nonsense performance. He won't flash the place up but he'll rarely Fuck up. The team will give him a job and he will do it. People need to chill out. Not ever player we sign is going to be Pozuelo.

I'll add, I don't love the DeLeon signing as it does feel premature to me as well, however I think it is a possibility that management is doing this mostly to lock him into a lower salary than he might have been able to negotiate at the end of the year if this trend continues and he plays significant minutes + does well. DeLeon might have traded some salary for the promise of a guaranteed multi-year contract.

Patter like that complaining about a contract is the most depressing thing about MLS. Where else would we want the players for our team payed the least possible we could get away with it & the fans commenting and knowing every contractual detail.

Difference is that Zavaleta was never good. He was protected by two better CB’s and if you were really watching him, he was a poor 1v1 defender (Montreal series in 2016 was when I knew he was useless). DeLeon has shown he can start, be your 1st/2nd guy off the bench, and play multiple positions. DC fans were pretty much in unison that they all liked him, and would be a good player for us. The Beita comparison was actually pretty good.

Generally you want all your core players on multi-year contracts. Then they are an asset that can be traded & they are fully committed. I’d still like to see Bradley extended and his future locked down.

Just to clarify, yes we got LA's #1 draft pick, which is a dubious asset.

We also got the 2nd pick in the allocation, which means we are back at #1 for the allocation list.

This isn't the first time we've reached peak MLS, huh?

TFC2 or if we get a CPL team, they'll need players. But then again you never know, still a few gems in there. Since our academy isn't producing them we might as well just roll the dice on defenders and GKs and hope one comes good.

Cincinnati likes draft picks. They acquired so many draft picks this year. Trade it to them for some Garber bucks.

when I heard the news about Deleon I assumed they extended him at a lower number to build cap space. Sounded like a good plan

That is a good point. If they did that, it could make sense.

“There are 3-5 players we have a lot of interest in," Curtis told MLSsoccer.com on Thursday. "Some of them may not be available, we may not have the financial wherewithal to get a deal done, but we have a few players on that list that we think highly of.”

Najar, Green, Omar Gonzalez, Fabian Castillo, Fabian Johnson?
