Looks as clear as ink to me. ‘Other special status’ could be interpreted different ways.

All this stuff is such a farce. Is Doneil Henry an international for Vancouver because he is a “citizen” of Cyprus?

Was Davies a homegrown international before he became a Canadian citizen in June 2017?

He was so close to making it in the UK before he was hurt. Sort of like Vazquez - the injury was serious enough that it took him off his development path. Really too bad.

He had refugee status in Canada (other special status). No real reason to become a citizen if you aren’t voting age anyway other than being able to have a Canadian passport.

Not sure I follow. Assuming he is still a dual citizen?

BTW, he’s looking more and more setttled these days. Finally taking those rash challenges (or should I call them Ciman style “adventures”) out of his game. That instantly makes him a strong CB, still has star potential.

Sounds like a new trade rumour, Henry for Ciman!

Is it just me, or is anyone else going nuts for some rumours here? Over 3 weeks now, and we have had one kinda rumour. How have we not heard a peep yet?

TFC won their first 2 games of the MLS season & Pozo just arrived.
We may not see any more moves until the summer transfer window.

Bill Manning interview for tsn with Luke Wileman- Bill's words below:

    1) vdw release frees up a little bit of money.
    2) Ali leaving tonight to finalize a player acquisition. Likely to be revealed next week.
    3) Looking to use Tam money on a European player. Could take 2 weeks because European leagues are ongoing.
    4) saving a spot for a summer acquisition to finalize a missing piece like done with ricketts and cooper in past years

Sounds like VDW got paid to leave as part of his mutual consent.

So # 2 is either South America or Europe.

Edit: and, following # 3, it is Europe.

Sorry with respect to # 3 the video does say "another player" from Europe. So possibily # 2 is South America or Europe. But two different acquisitions being referred to.

They mentioned in the Pozo conference multiple times how much time Ali spent in Belgium. Plus the Gayot connection. Plus the locker room references. Those all seemed like clues to me.

    Belgium. Who else from Belgium?

Ali knows Anderlecht from his NYRB days, he dealt with them on Klejstan.

A guy on Anderlecht who is unsettled, who isn’t a core player, who is near the end of his deal.

    Andy Najar.

    Signed only through 2020.

A technical, speedy player. A winger. The kind of guy Manning loved at RSL.

A guy you would need a top spot in the allocation order to get.

Dero and Deleon were teammates and would be informed locker room references.

    You're welcome. ;-)

Najar makes sense but too bad he's a right winger. He's actually been playing right fullback lately.

I think he played everywhere at DCU. EDIT: I just searched, I can’t find evidence of that. So best to assume right side only.

But right wing is fine. So is RB for that matter.

This is also a signing that might make Pozo happy, in that it's a player that he knows, and that he knows will have an immediate understanding of his game.

I'd be too worried about Najar's injury history, though hasn't stopped this club before

Is 31 year old Fabian Johnson a better risk?

Also no. Though I may have pointed him out as a good option in the off season thread at one point (my mistake)

It would be a weird choice but also okay because they got rid of VDW. Who knows.

Twitter degenerates are calling for Pato so...

I’d hope we could get someone better than Najar.

I’d actually consider using our VDW bucks on Gressel if there’s a way to get him here.

If we only save a bit of money it may be because VdW was being paid down by TAM to to very low cap hit.

Even in his highlight videos from DC United he's playing on the right side. I like the job DeLeon is doing on the right wing, I don't think DeLeon can play left wing either. Najar has 0 assist and goals in 18 games this year?
