I don't think he went in to injure. But there is no need to have elbows in Macho Man Randy Savage position going up for a header. It's not dissimilar to a studs up tackle. Not every studs up tackle is an intent to injure but the risk of significant injury is such that we categorically disallow it. Leading with your elbow is in the same boat.

I’m all for a bit of rough and trouble action in professional sports but this is a bit much. It adds nothing to the game. The idea these guys are somehow not in control of their bodies and the elbows are just always going to happen laughable. This is all about the way we’ve decided to officiate the game and how players feel they need to respond.

It’s the same as tackling from behind. Some people said the angles made it too difficult to clean up. And now... you see it far less than you used to because it’s punished, imagine that.

A summary of the horror story that is the Whitecaps, and why there is little hope for the future. Hopefully for their fans it isn't as bad as this article suggests.

Lucky itís not a sport with big bucks on the line, or I suspect theyíd already be in the conversation for a move.

MLS fandom really railed on Precourt for Columbus, but you donít really hear much about the WC and the hideousness of their organization outside a pretty small population of Canadian MLS supporters.

The Whitecaps don't even have 1 full-time scout?

    How is that even possible?

This just makes me sad. We need strong teams to have good rivalries and push the game forward in this country.

At this rate the Vancouver is going to be an afterthought or moved to another market, rewarding an ownership group with a big payday that has never tried and has acted completely unethically along the way. Shame.

I think if anything there will be pressure put on that current ownership to move on from Lenarduzzi and finally modernise the team. The rest of that article seems based on the "MLS is all a PONZI scheme!" viewpoint. TSN is interested in 3 MLS teams. They are not going anywhere.

^ Unfortunately there is very little strategic importance to that market for the league as a whole compared to the broader set of opportunities that are out there. Bit of hyperbole for me to suggest they'd be moving at this rate but I don’t think people internalize how small of a market we are as a country compared to the US.

Letting that team go could easily be an afterthought. I wouldn’t necessarily bet on it happening, but it’s not crazy talk to suggest they could do it.

Then Garber needs to step in and apply some pressure to Whitecaps ownership to get their house in order.

Unless Supreme Leader Maldonaldo Garbero is also laundering his money through BC casinos and real estate, an American league with precedents for moving teams isnít going to care much about a Canadian team in either Vancouver or Montreal, especially if the ownership group is incompetent and/or worse.

I prefer the whitecaps to be competitive. There is no fun in beating a team that expects to lose.

Bon Lenarduzzi and Steve Nash are legends. How have they let it get to this.

They have one of the best young coaches in the game. Canít blame him - and firing Carl Robinson sure doesnít look too bright now.

Hold on. How would the Whitecaps be moved since they were their own entity playing in the NASL(USL? I dont remember).

The worst that could happen is join the CPL.

MLS is single entity. Theoretically they could buy into CPL with a new team, I guess.

    https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/...ek-21-analysis

Something kinda interesting here from the weekly MLS editorial review... TFC is 5th in the league in possession, but 1st in passing accuracy by nearly 2 full percentage points, 1st in total passes played, and the highest average number of passes before a loss of possession by a fair distance.

Compared to what I've been seeing on the pitch, I think this aligns with our tendency this season to be pretty secure in possession, but run out of ideas and pass it back and forth from one side to the other around the opponent's final third. Hasn't helped missing our DPs for long stretches, which I'm sure has contributed, but I think the stats - given these numbers yet we're maybe just a bit better than league average in terms of goal scoring - bear out that we should be looking to play direct or take additional risks in the final third a bit more often.

I don't think I've ever cared more about a football club shitshow than with the Whitecaps. Bob Lenarduzzi (and a whole lot of the Whitecaps ownership and management imo) is a joke. Vancouver, BC, Western Canada, the national teams (especially the Women) have been treated like shit (probably worse than that actually). You know what it's chill if you want to be a budget MLS team - hell even a budget MLS team that loses - but don't run a budget MLS team that fucks almost (they have to be doing something right, right?) everything up.

Another way of seeing it is that, given our terrible +/-, we give up goals at an alarming rate for the amount of possession our opponents have.

We have the 5th best possession, and 9th in goals for / game (within 0.05 of 4th).

We are 6th worst in goals against / game.

Right, this was the long strings of unbroken possession followed by losses of the ball in transition leading directly to opponent scoring.

They are 100-150 k MLS 2.0 players. Nothing wrong with that and they are some good depth. MLS is really taking a big leap forward with TAM and Toronto is a middle pack team.

The average starting salary for TFC starting 11 is around 2 million (DP factor) the mean if I had to guess is around 750 k. (I donít know the exact salary of Osorio, Gallardo, Omar or Benezet) but in that 700 k range

The top 18 avg salary has to be around around 900k-1 million and the median around 525 k. Donít know all the exact numbers but this is probably in the ball park

Need the to get minutes before Ottawa and none are good enough to see the field at NYRB.

Exactly - they probably arent going to play this weekend so you want to keep them active for the Canadian Championship. Thats a great use of TFC 2.

and by the way if there was any better indication that Fraser, Akinola, Zavaletta, Morgan and Chapman needed minutes at ANY level, it's how thoroughly they were outplayed by a mid to bottom tier League One side.

Fraser I understand. Giving the rest of them minutes at expense of our future players is silly and short sighted.

I hope we have other options for Ottawa if today was any indication
