True, we were a penalty shootout away from winning everything you could possibly win in North America.

    1 Supporter shield
    1 MLS Cup
2 Eastern conference championships (2 MLS Finals)
    1 Treble.
    1 CCL Final
    Several Canadian championships.

I would say the 80 million dollar investment (or whatever it was) on Giovinco, Altidore and Bradley was worth it.

The next chapter for TFC is very interesting. In a way, TFC set the trend of pushing the envelope for young DP's. We were able to get history for relatively cheap. in 2025 it could cost upwards of a 500 million dollars to win a championship in MLS. Atlanta United is investing hundreds of millions (transfer fee's + long term salary) with Martinez, Almiron, Barco, Josef, infrastructure etc. D.C United, Red Bulls and NYCFC have all caught up as well. D.C looks very strong this year. I have TFC around 5-7 in the east right now.

I'm happy we spent the money when the window of opportunity was there. I would rather them spent the money between 2015-2018 rather then 2018-2021 if I have the choice. I'm prepared for whatever comes next even if we have a downfall because we went for it when we had the chance. Winning championships has a lot to do with timing.

Jozy loves Toronto. He won the MLS Cup for Toronto and the supporters. He goes to Haiti in the close season to bring attention to issues that still persist there.

    What a self centred bastard.

That’s just cultural difference. North America, we’re used to seeing players go into free agency. Not so in Europe, good players are either resigned or sold to another club.

Giovinco wants to stay, but he don’t want to be lowballed by Toronto. Which is why his agent is leaking rumors to flex and force negotiations. It’s cat and mouse. Nothing more.

I'm not so much against his contract gamesmanship now but he has been at this for a couple years already.

Boyd played for Frings at Darmstadt. I hope he doesn’t think he has to kick a ball around forlornly in a train station if he comes here.

Love me some Frings but not sure you can consider what Darmstadt did at that point as playing.

I've said it since the whole bandage head game - this is the type of captain that thrives in Toronto.

You don't need a superstar to lead your team, he just needs to be a leader.

With that being said, We need players like giovinco - those players make your team shine and are a must have. You just don't make them your captain
    You said it!

Does indicate though, that a player has bargaining leverage too. It’s not just “oh he’s not worth more than $2.5 million”. He is worth what the market says. Plus we should want Seba Bradley and I think Jozy to play out their careers here. We were awesome for a year and then virtually untouchable for another 15 months and then ran out of gas. These players can still do it - with a right back and some pace on the wing. Personally, I think it’s a false economy to try to save a couple of million on each of Jozy and Seba and go through the crapshoot of some new player who could easily end not fitting in - to the team, or the league. On the length of a contract I agree TFC need to stick their heels in but I sure hope we resign our core.
It's hard to argue with anything in this post.

    Well there are two actually

We all loved him right then, no matter how clarty the goal was.

    &

Gotta admit it though - better then Chad Barrett.

He didn’t get too many clean ones did he?

His greatest play here wasn’t a goal, and didn’t result in one. He came thisclose to eternal fame when he beat a defender low and beautifully crossed to Jozy in extra time of MLS Cup 2016 on the ball that Frei somehow saved.

I can’t post it, it is too painful, but Tosaint was pure quality on that play.

Damn Aketxe can hit a ball.

Also i still remember Oso's Azteca goal. Ricketts blew a 1v1 with the keeper only for a CA player to toe poke it to Oso.

the one vs atl, in a shitty season , to not lose after that soft PK

I said to myself I won't be tough on ricketts, only lasted maybe one game before I was frustrated with his play

Ager had some skills that was a shot.
Also the link between seba and oso

My favourite Ricketts moment was when he scored two goals in the final ten minutes against the Crew to lead TFC to a 2-1 win. Thanks and good luck to Tousaint!

    Latest on #Giovinco, #TFCLive, #AlHilal situation.

    - Giovinco is with Toronto in California.
    - His agent met with the Al-Hilal reps in Milan last week.
    - Toronto FC denies any official offers from #AlHilal.
    - Personal terms are $10m/yr for 3 years.

If this is true, he’s gone. This year or next. I’d be shocked if TFC offered half of that.

Maybe, cash isn't the only consideration, although it's a huge one.

TFC are amateurs at the high level international player salary game. They aren't used to it (actually most of MLS isn't, except for maybe LAG and NYFC). By not tying up Giovinco last year they risk him leaving for a free at the end of the year.

Just a bit of a reality reminder

Both NYRB & Atlanta are dealing with worse DP problems right now due to not knowing how to deal with agents.

Kaku wants out to Mexico but NYRB doesn't like the price.

Atlanta has 4 Dp's and Almiron wants to go while Atlanta insists on a fee that nobody wants to pay because...Atlanta got a 4th DP too early.

I don't think we are in the same level of predicament those two teams are in - our guys want to stay. But we could have gotten ahead of the curve here by having discussions last season so everybody knew where things stood. Instead, there seems to have been an insistence on a policy of no discussions until the final year which allows a good agent to apply pressure.

If only he'd been a couple of years younger when he got here. He salvaged our 2016 when Bradley got hurt on international duty. He also made the key interception in the 2017 MLS Cup Final that led to the Vazquez goal. What a joy it was to see three quality European league midfielders on the field at the same time when Cheyrou, Vazquez and Bradley played together.

Great days but too few minutes.
