Sources: Toronto FC are pursuing 27-year-old Genk attacking midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo as their third Designated Player. http://MLSsoccer.com story to follow.
Should add: He’s not Toronto’s only Target. Told they’re looking at several options for the DP spot.
Once again, local media nowhere to be seen.

The BREAKING NEWS from our reporters will come 1 minute before TFC releases the info.

To be clear - he does look like a fine player.

Can I ask, where are the Shaarawy rumours coming from? I haven't been able to track down where he's linked to TFC.

Eric Giacometti, TFC employee, pretty much shot down the entire rumour on Twitter. Not happening

    Merci.

Do you think, then, that TFC's pretty much putting their trust in the young guns for forward options if Pozuelo is the guy?

After Altidore and Boyd that's what it looks like. It seems management is focusing on attacking midfielders and wingers.

Or they think they can sign Jozy and make him the man up top?

It looks like they're trying to shift away from being so reliant on set pieces and strength. I'm okay with this, especially if Menendez can step up (assuming we sign him).

He's injured rn and to be honest he sounds like he's one foot out the door. It'd be great to start seeing the fruits of our academy.

Back from injury, only a couple weeks extra away from fitness from rest of squad. Had all bone fragments removed from foot that had been bothering him last two seasons.
He'd be excellent as lone striker with wingers imo. Any money there arent any good offers for him at his price tag so I bet he stays. especially since we lost Seba, which the club wasnt expecting so soon.

Fair enough. I agree that seeing him with some speedy wingers would be a real treat for sore eyes.

Jozy and Giovinco had some pretty sweet interplay. If he gets a guy like that who can release him around the top of the box he’ll be just fine and will score.

ONE OF THE TOP LEAGUES OUTSIDE OF THE OBVIOUS.

Turkey, France, Holland, Portugal and Belgium would be in and around the same. Was talking about Europe, not the world. Germany, Italy, Spain and England would be absolute tops. England second division isn't that great especially the bottom of it.

The English Championship is a very high level if that’s what people mean by second division.

If this is a guy they can bring in, it won’t make us forget Seba, but it does look like they are serious. I think they are worried about negotiations, that’s why they keep saying “one of several.”

You do realize that some leagues are not entirely composed of teams that reflect the strength of their league overall?

Genk is doing well in EL; they’re a pretty strong team. Would you prefer we brought in Larin as a DP from a top Turkish team (where he is currently undesirable), or pick up players from a bottom Argentine league team? Should we not have brought in VV?

Alejandro Pozuelo looks interesting if true. Primarily left-footed, but good with both feet.

Apparently Courtois was also giving Pozuelo advice on the transfer issue recently.

Come to think of it, we could use an upgrade on Bono...

I mean, they’re not really the same. France and Portugal are much better than the other three overall, and the top teams in France and Portugal are mostly superior to the top teams in the others.

Of those leagues, Belgium is probably the weakest overall, but that doesn’t mean the other user’s point was correct.
