Default Why doesn't Luke Wileman ever refer to the team as just Toronto?

Has anyone noticed that Luke Wileman always refers to the team as "Toronto FC" while calling the play by play and never just "Toronto" I've never heard an announcer refer to Liverpool or Barcelona as Liverpool FC or Barcelona FC during a broadcast, just Liverpool or Barcelona. Everyone knows its Toronto that's playing so adding the "FC" part on an ongoing basis just seems unnecessary. Does anyone else find this irritating?

Dude it's not just Wileman, all the announcers and pundits and broadcasters have referred to the team as full Toronto FC (better than the FCs) since inception. It's bothered me since day 1 but what can ya do..they're used to saying the Leafs and the Raptors and not identifying the team by the city..(prob true in all N American sports).

This article actually starts off with 'The Toronto FC's'...they're writers but they still haven't figured out that FC is not a nickname and can't be used the same way as Leafs and Raptors.

There is a rhythm to Toronto FC. He's probably imprinted it and so it stays.

    Doesn't bother me that much.

I think the generally accepted monikers for the team are Toronto FC, TFC or Toronto but not FC. The questions is why doesn't Luke use Toronto when speaking about the team for 90 min.

It could be worse. Cathal Kelly used to call them “the Torontos”

I have family members that always ask me "are FC playing this weekend?", "how are FC doing?"....etc. I keep telling them but they keep saying it. They are not doing it to spite. They just really really don't get it for some reason. That stuff irks me way more than someone saying the whole "Toronto FC" name every time.

I've been complaining about this very thing for years.
On the surface, it seems somewhat insignificant, but irritates me to no end.

If I'm watching a soccer game, then I know it's not the Leafs or Raptors playing, so what's the point of saying "FC" after "Toronto"? It's superfluous and annoying.

It's really just one of many things that makes me think the TSN team is not capable of producing a good soccer broadcast.

I would rather Toronto FC than 'The FC' which I have heard, or as others The FC's or The Toronto FC's, just my opinion, now if we could only train Steven Caldwell to be a home audience announcer FFS, this is not the EPL where announcer are required to be non-biased. I know this should be in another thread.

I'd prefer they just replace him. Does he ever stop talking?

I get it... this is soccer, and TSN isn't paying the big bucks for it's commentators.
But I can't believe there aren't better options out there for the price.

When does the broadcasters transfer window open?

I'd say sometime after the World Cup

Well - he is a colour commentator. I've heard very biased EPL colour guys many times.

Perfect. Maybe TSN will land a good DB (Designated Broadcaster).

Have family members that to the same, so I have started to train my brain to think that when they ask me "are the FC playing this weekend?", they are really just shortening "Football Club" so the real question is "are the Football Club playing this weekend?".
Used to drive me crazy too, and have also let them know the "proper" way of saying it many times, but the I realized that I have enough things in life that make me angry....I don't need this to be another lol.....
That, and one uncle who does it the most is genuinely interested in the team, so that's a good thing, I guess......

"Why doesn't Luke Wileman refer to the team as Toronto" is the new "The season might well be over already"

Tune in next week for: "Why does Alex Bono make that weird face sometimes? It's distracting me when I'm trying to follow the capo."

Sounds like an improvement week by week. I look forward to the Bono discussion.

    One problem

Bono is off with the US

Going to have to be a complaint about VDW's moisturizer routine.

You know, I've tried all sorts of moisturizers. I even went fragrance free for a whole year. Now my sister, she uses some kind of uh... uh... uh... uh... aloe vera with a little sunscreen in it, and ideally, we should all wear gloves when going to bed, but I found out that that creates a kind of an interference with my... "social agenda", you know what I mean.
