Been saving this one for today.

Chivas' Liga MX results at the Akron in the Clausura in 2018 so far:

    Loss to Cruz Azul 3-1
    Loss to Monterrey 2-1
    Loss to Santos Laguna 2-0
    Tied Pachuca 1-1
    Tied America 1-1
    Tied Tigres 0-0
    Loss to Veracruz 1-0

We get anything going at all, and that stadium is going to get very uneasy in a hurry.

Far from over. Futbol is a funny sport. The better team usually shows up in the end. Bradley seemed extremely confident that they will rebound. Score first and take control of the game. I feel confident.

The two things that have me feeling cautiously optimistic is that the field will likely be better and no one has to worry about picking up a yellow anymore.

I actually saw this on Twitter. Couldn’t believe that. Chivas has been a different/more scrappy team in the CCL. But that record at home should give us some hope. We really need to get a goal in the first 30. That would make things tense for them.

I haven't lost hope. I know it's a big mountain to climb, but they got two relatively lucky goals last night and we were all over them for long stretches. Altidore, at full speed, does not miss those chances. This is not over.

Here's how I see this situation.

TFC's first ever playoff appearance was in the 2015 Eastern Conference knockout, where our side lost badly to the L'Impact in Montreal. Next year, our side faced off against Montreal in the playoffs again in the 2016 Eastern Final, where the Reds avenged their playoff loss against the L'Impact in one of the most thrilling playoff series in MLS history.

In the MLS Cup Final that year, TFC lost to Seattle, where the Snot Greens parked the bus all night and didn't register a single shot on goal. The next year, the Reds faced Seattle in the Final again, and defeated the Snot Greens in the most convincing of fashions for the club's first ever Cup.

I'd like to think that TFC will take that embarrassing loss they suffered last night, go down to Mexico and avenge it with a thorough victory over Chivas in front of their fans, thus making Toronto FC the first ever MLS side to capture the CONCACAF Champions League title.

TORONTO FC, 2017 MLS CHAMPIONS!!! (Still the greatest in league history!)

I really feel like we need Vazquez to get on the pitch at some point in this to get over the line.

I wish. But the reality is that he hasn't played a full 90 all year and hasn't played at all since he came on for 12 or so minutes against Tigres. I think that the team is unfortunately going to need to do this without him.

We are the more talented team. But they were well organized and we lacked sharpness both in finishing and in defending.

But we can do it. I believe we will do it.

Will be watching this with the RPB at Joe's.

They may have screwed with the pitch at the Akron before the Sounders game. So I don’t know that we can assume that the pitch will be good....

Chivas should also have 3 of their starters back, so that is something to consider as well.

    We can beat them.

I just hope the referee isn't going to let them do whatever they want.

    http://www.oddsportal.com/soccer/nor...d8ch4mpL/#cs;2

Here is how the smartest football minds see it:
I looked at all the scores we needed to get to win the championship and looked at the odds and then converted the odds to probabilities
we have about a 18% probability of winning this chmpionship
it would have been 48% if Bono did not make the error

this would equate to 5.5 decimal odds
2.0 decimal odds without Bono error

I don't know if I necessarily agree with this as I have seen this team win some really clutch games.
The oddsmakers don't know the heart of this team.

In the land where football internet punters roam ... nobody can spell TFC. They literally have no idea who we are.

This is a great value punt. I am getting $100 down on it tomorrow.

good value that, even to win the game is a good price at 3/1.

Well look who conceded a goal 50 seconds into their match against their cross-town rivals. Mostly subs but that was their regular starting goalkeeper.

I don't think the goalkeeper has to take full blame for that goal.
He needed to stay close enough to the goal line to prevent a shot on the goal by the player who has centered, and so he could not be far enough from the goal line to block that centered pass to the goalscorer.
Maybe he could have committed to plunge ahead to block that low cross, but then again, there was a defender running with the goal scorer, so maybe he hoped that the the defender can make a clearance...

Reading twitter, it wasn’t a serious game. Atlas played kids too.

It was turned into a Rafa Marquez testimonial game. He's 39 and retiring.

Can we just have some fun here?

We were inches away from, first NY, then Columbus, putting us out, and leaving us fuming for months.

Until this year, no MLS team had EVER won a tie with a Mexican team, when the second leg was in Mexico. We have done that twice now. I think our odds of beating either Tigres or America were around 25%. So the odds of beating both of them was around 6%.

We are not supposed to be here. We were 50/50 against Chivas, so the odds of beating all three were 3%.

    3%.

Chivas aren’t as good as the teams we beat, but the guys on their team that made the plays that beat us, Pulido and Pizarro, cost a combined $30M in transfers. We spend more than anyone in MLS, but we don’t/can’t come close to competing with that kind of splashing.

Yet we still outplayed them, but... agonizingly, gave up crappy soft goals. Let’s leave the agony behind. It may have wrecked the tie, but it may not have. We have a fighter’s chance.

It’s kind of a weird thing, these games don’t get much buildup because of the pacing, and it’s at 9.30pm on a Wednesday night.... but this is bigger, way bigger, than MLS Cup 2018, and more interesting to boot.

I couldn’t be more thrilled, just to be in this position. Win or lose. I hope the team are loose, and go out there, and have a ball.
