    That looks ridiculous.

If CONCACAF doesn't change their scheduling next year we'll have to assume they're getting money from Mexico.

But if the pitch is actually frozen, the ref will call off the game, right? That's just standard FIFA regulation, right?

They are scheduled during mid-week so that they are consistent with the other matches. This way, no one can complain of favouritism as the winner would have a few extra days of prep for the next round if leg 2 was next weekend. The good thing is that this match can easily be rescheduled for Wednesday or even Thursday if necessary.

As for the suggestion of CONCACAF scheduling these matches to a neutral location, I disagree. I think we all want a home game here, and seasonal temperatures here (and Denver) are around 0C; it's very reasonable for CONCACAF to prefer that these matches not be played elsewhere. It's predicted it'll be +3C here on the 27th. Should that match be played in Florida?
entirely predictable that games at 8 pm in February in Denver and Toronto would be brutally cold. Should have been Sunday afternoon at a minimum, regardless of “advantage” for the next leg

I read some info about the stadium (Dick's Sporting Goods Park), supposedly they have underground heat for the pitch, but it really doesn't look like that in the pictures above. Or it's a weak-ass heating system.

Or it doesn't work at - 15. Which isn't really surprising

I think I will feel guilty even watching this game.

Kind of like I think some feel watching the NFL - complicit in an event with the inevitable logic that participants will be hurt, maybe badly.

I guess my shock is how much he is saying it to the media. I get all those points but you keep that in the locker room I think and give more of a political answer. Just putting myself in Colorado fans shoes I don’t think I would like it.. Essentially saying they will do their best but don’t expect much. At the same time trying to sell and even give away tickets to the game. Doesn’t make sense to me.

    Finally GAME DAY!!!

I don't care about the score line as much as I hope our boys can come out of this one without frostbite and without any major injuries. So far the weather network is calling for -10° feeling like -14°. Man the return leg is going to feel like they are back in California with a balmy 0°. I'm thinking we eek out a 1-0 win.

Can't believe the temperature/weather swing they've experienced in the Denver area in the past 48 hours. It was 19 degrees and sun on Sunday. Unreal.

Still remains as forecast for kickoff tonight, -10 feeling like -14.

I literally have no idea what to expect from this "football match".

Ha - maybe those all white kits will suddenly seem like a bad idea tonight. Maybe they can wear the red shorts since Colorado's kit has white shorts.

    TSN2

It's also on radio, pregame starts on TSN 1050 at 9:10.

Again, consider the full context. For one thing, given that the forecast for tonight has been known for some time, how likely is it that doing what you said would have moved the needle in terms of meaningfully higher ticket sales and attendance? IMO, Hudson had very little if anything to lose by being less politically correct, while otoh, he might have felt that doing so was a no-lose; it wasn't going to hurt sales, attendance or his future credibility with fans, and might help enhance the last of these. For another, at least some of their fans were already wondering about prioritizing CCL vs MLS anyway.

According to Larson (who is there for those who think the journos never do anything), Colorado only sold 1K of tickets for this match.

I read a post by an alleged groundskeeper who helped put in the pitch in at RSL that undersoil heating doesn't really heat the pitch per say. It helps grow the grass by heating the roots but this isn't enough heat to keep the grass itself warm. He stated it may make a light snowfall melt a little faster but real accumulated snow will be unaffected.

All this talk about DSG and cold and snow is giving me flashbacks to the crazy snowmaggedon WC qualifier between US and Costa Rica March 22, 2013. I've never seen anything like that, before or since. The game paused at around 60' to consider whether or not to suspend play due to the blizzard. It went on, defying all logic. I guess that is why despite the cold I doubt Concacaf postpones the match.

Looks like their FO are trying to give away as many as they can for the last couple days trying to up the attendance as well. Would suck to have bought tickets when they are giving them away for free now.
