Default April 7th match vs. DC being moved to June 13

As was mentioned in Kurt's article, Steve Goff of the Washington post tweeted out tonight that the April 7th match vs. the DC United will be moved to mid-June. This was not unexpected as the Reds have the second leg of their Champions League semi-final at Club America in Mexico City. Makes total sense to me plus it no gives us a home match in June.

Huge news. Besides making sure the best XI are rested, it means we can go to Denver (or I suppose Mexico City itself, although I doubt that) for a few days beforehand to acclimate at altitude.

Does this mean they aren't replacing the grass in June?

This is good news. I assume it will be on the June 15 weekend.

If the field is replaced at the end of May, that gives them just over 2 weeks for the grass. I wonder how much time is needed for the turf?

Usually a bit longer than that.

June 13th sounds great! I hope they make it official soon. It would be a perfect birthday with a WIN! Thank you for the update. )

I have a feeling that this will be played either Sunday June 17th (late afternoon, or even evening).
Or even on the 20th at night.

^ The obvious move is to have the game played towards the beginning of the World Cup break. Tuesday the 12th or Wednesday the 13th make the most sense, as they are before the World Cup itself starts

The 17th won't happen. Teams want to disperse - it's not fair to DCU or TFC players, and creates competitive balance issues, if those two teams have to mostly stay in training/mid season routine, while everyone else is on the beach

Don't know what this means for the new grass plan, though

On the issue of the new grass plan, the Argos still have not scheduled there pre-season home game vs. Ottawa in early June yet either.

Argos first preseason game is June 1st and season opener (away) is June 15,so it would have to be around June 7-9.

We play in DC on October 17. I wonder if there's a way we could swap dates (play in DC in June and at bmo in October) to allow the grass to set for a few extra days. DC might not go for it, might prefer a late season home game

I don't think the two dates can be flipped, DC's new stadium I don't believe will be ready. Their first game at Audi Field is Just 14th.

Big if true. I got tickets to Phantom on the Saturday so I've been crossing my fingers since the news of the move broke.

I feel as though as a one off the Argos pre-season game may be back at Varsity or Lamport (both General Admission, Lamport is to be hosting Wolfpack games by then)

The club announced June 13, 8PM in an email. Thread title revised accordingly.

Well, that gives them 19 days to grow the grass... sounds too tight.

Plus the date for the Argos home pre-season game during that same time period has not been announced. So putting grass in during that time might not even be viable.

Hmm. Now means TFC fans can't go to the 2nd leg Canadian Championship game between Oakville Blue Devils and AS Blainville which from last I heard was being played at Ontario Soccer Centre. OBD's home of Sheridan College doesn't have stadium lights.

Chances were small, but TFC would face either of those teams as the winner plays Ottawa for a spot in the semis.

I really wonder what the plan is for the grass now. Perhaps a friendly journalist could ask TFC?

Crap. I was going to catch that game. I didn't know it was going to be moved though, I guess the reasons make sense.

    I expect TFC.
Last year the L1O championship was bumped by the OSC as TFC II played up there on the Saturday and TFC (MLS) were playing at BMO on Sunday (the TFC v Impact derby game). L1O ended up rescheduling for the next Friday night and drew surprisingly well.

Maybe the Oakville game can be bumped by a day, would be nice.
