Miami is a different beast. No market there. The demographics/income disparity is outrageous in Miami. Not to mention how it's layed out as a city, public transport etc.

It's everything you don't want in an expansion team basically. It's the direct opposite in every way except maybe the glamour aspect, but that's for the players. There are no other redeeming qualities for a new sports franchise in Miami.

Once upon a time Thierry Henry ruled MLS - I don't see why he can't do it again.

Those are great points but I think it's more than that with Miami, at least where soccer is concerned. It's the latino media centre in the US, and many (if not all) of the major media markets in Central and South America have offices/bureaus in Miami. It's not just selling tickets to Miami residents; it's about selling the brand south, IMHO.

^I'd rep this post if I could. Miami is where all the rich Central Americans fly into for a day of shopping. I could see them taking an interest in a team there.

That's bang on. Given the "FutbolMLS" branding around the announcement, i figure that's the direction they are going in

I just have zero interest in this game. This is what the CCL is for. I don't see the benefit. I would have supported a Supporters Shield style game to open the season? Maybe.

Orlando putting all their chips in on this season. It'll be a disaster for them if they miss the playoffs again.

Bold moves - Orlando went from probable alsoran to playoff team in one week. Better balanced then it was a few days ago but defensive cohesion takes time, I still think they can be had down the sides, and they lack depth in the back. Will be fun to watch but I don't think they run deep into the playoffs.

Do you mean Community Shield/Super Cup style game? Like MLS Cup winner vs Supporters Shield Winner for the MLS Super Cup?

The top team in MLS in form versus the top team in Liga MX in form. Fans have been asking for this for years.

TFC will take this game seriously, especially if we have a strong few games in CCL versus Liga MX teams. And if we managed to somehow win CCL - the Liga MX team will come up here looking for revenge.

There is potential here for something big.

^^ I would look forward to this as well, but I would presume would be two matches, home and away?

I also don't think it would happen this year as the schedules are set, but that's okay; Bradley and his mates could take it personally and win the Cup again to spite both leagues, LOL!

Similar. MLS vs. Liga MX winner but when the season kicks off. Could be the Apertura winner?

Remember there was that MLS vs. Mex competition that happened for a couple of years, that died when the CCL was born?

    What was that called again?

In fact, I'm not even sure why I brought it up now.

It was terrible, the MLS rosters weren't deep enough at the time to handle it. I remember it as a ridiculous distraction.

Saw this. Salary disparity makes it a lot more arguable then Simmons version, which is what he was going for, but still definitely an interesting and worthwhile thought exercise for an article. Also very clearly basing a lot of his opinions on players on media hype as opposed to in depth player analysis (You will not convince me that Delgado isn't as good as Roldan, Or that Nick Hagglund isn't as good as Walker Zimmerman, Or that Jordan Morris isn't mostly just a white less athletic Darren Mattocks)

Massive news out today that ESPN bought the right to MLS live and is mixing it in as part of ESPN+ - ESPN's big push to switch to streaming and online content after their subscriptions levels fell off a cliff two or three years ago. It'll be cheaper than MLS live, plus you get access to every other sporting event ESPN has in its folder. It'll mean a significantly bigger audience across the U.S. and around the world. Could very well be looked at as a turning point in the league's surge into mainstream entertainment in the U.S. and Canada in the coming years.
