Excited to see who TFC will select in the draft.
Excited to see who TFC will select in the draft.
A look at our drafting record in the Bezbatchenko era. Only considering 1st round here as later rounds are truly a crapshoot.
2017:
Brandon Aubrey (21st pick) - Looking like a bust, but no player selected after him has made a real impact in MLS. Wash.
2016:
Tsubasa Endoh (9th pick) - Good pick. Chicago Fire CB Jonathan Campbell is the only player selected after Endoh with more MLS appearances.
2015:
Alex Bono (6th pick) - Jackpot. Arguably best player in the draft after Larin.
Clement Simonin (9th pick) - Bust. Missed out on better CBs in Tim Parker and Axel Sjoberg, and on Cristian Roldan, all taken a few picks later.
Skylar Thomas (11th pick) - Bust. Same as above.
2014:
Nick Hagglund (10th pick) - Jackpot. After Andre Blake, the 2nd or 3rd best player in the draft depending on your opinion of Steve Birnbaum.

TFC is picking 23rd. I don't see them getting anything at that level. I'd flip the pick for TAM and a second round pick or first round pick net year. Could probably do a deal with Portland as they don't have a pick this year and the new coach will probably want to put a stamp on the team.
superdraft
where STARS are born....
Use the draft to make TFCII better.
Everything else is a crap shoot.
For sure TFC 2 needs to be better!
Too many second teams of other MLS teams in the USL looked miles better, at least if looking at the stands.
How to develop the winning mentality of these young guys, if the team they play almost all their games with through the season is crap compared to the competitors they meet?
Just being close to the first team, and sensing their winning mentality is not enough, they have to do it themselves too, to some externt.

Goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell out of Virginia looks to be talented enough at first glance to make a step up, former US Youth international

Matt Doyle had TFC taking Jon Gallagher, he's gone to Atlanta.
Ives had TFC taking Paul Marie, he's gone to SJ.
Top Drawer had TFC taking Jose Carrera, he's still on the board.
Well got some $$$ and a later pick.
Carter Manley now on peripheral radar.

Tim Kubel Defender - Louisville
Has some pedigree after spending time in the Borussia Dortmund system. Good move
Vanney just said they've been following him for four years, we're hoping to get him 2 years ago.
Alseth MKII
Meh
Good for him. Now he needs to earn his way into the first team.

Depth at RB/RWB but more in the Morgan behind Edwards & Morrow style.
