The club realizes that, I'm sure. The point is to get used to the style of play and the locale. By the time TFC needs to play a Mexican team, there will be some MLS action under the belt.

As far as I am concerned, this Mexican pre-season trip has had a big ZERO relevance in terms of how we compare to first div. Mex teams, considering all the aspects (what squads those teams and we have played, the irregular lengthts of games, etc).
I believe all this Mexican trip had effect only in in acclimitizing with the altitude and the general Mexican atmospere around football.

Playing 3 other MLS teams in same preseason mode would have been incomparably a lot more telling where we are at in our preparations.
Probably we did not needed that, like in all the other years, because of the very short offseason.

Especially when it comes to America, who may be a legitimate opponent if we manage to get past Tigres/Herediano. They wouldn't want to show their hand to us, and I hope we went into this with the same mentality.

I think we did. IIRC that friendly against America, we pulled never had our best 11 on the field at the same time and both Seba and Jozy were pulled after the first period. The whole trip no doubt was focused on get used to the thin air and returning to match fitness rather than a full out tactical prep. My call is the away leg in Colorado, we will see the same line up as MLS cup (Minus Beit obviously).

I think it's possible Vanney uses Irwin for the CL run too. I've never been a fan of the tactic of using your backup gk in Every cup competition regardless of the opponent or circumstance (I'm staring directly at you Mr Wenger) but I understand if the club feels the need to do so to ensure he remains happy and competitive as well as keeping him in the shop window.

    Oh god no
I’d rather they use Irwin in MLS and Bones in CCL if it comes down to it

I agree with this at least to start the season out, then Bono back in one our run concludes.
Then use Irwin come the Voyageurs Cup.

I'm looking at the Liga MX Clausura standings and on our side of the CCL Bracket, Club America and Tigres are 1 and 2 respectively. If we beat both those teams, we should win the final. Then there will be no way *anyone* can argue that this TFC isn't the best MLS team of all-time.

Club America is #1 in the Clausura standings but Tigres is actually in 11th. They last three years they have won the Apertura, however they finished 8th and 7th in the following Clausura, and don't look to be in great form at the moment as well.

That poses an interesting situation. Club America might be more focused on the Clausura and more inclined to use their bench while Tigres might see CCL as only chance for glory.

I watched Tigres Lobos BAUP on Tuesday night and Tigres were absolute shite.

Curious to see if they flick a switch against Herediano next week

I'm fairly certain Tigres are going to be VERY dedicated to winning CCL. They've been runners-up the past two years. In this really well produced documentary that follows Gignac last season (its in French), around 41 - 50 minutes it documents their final loss against Chivas. At about the 50 minute mark you can see how upset Gignac is about losing.

Tigres up 1-0 already with a lot of second stringers.

    Brutal marking on the corner.

I know Tigres didn't bring Gignac or Juninho but they haven't exactly been that great despite the score. Herediano is outplaying them in the second half I'd say.

Looks likely that we will be away to Tigres on the first leg and home for the second. The seeding is based on how each team does in the first round. That bodes well.

not in the next round were at home first then away based on ball numbers during the draw.

but through the rest of the tournament it matters.

that bradley yellow hurts though not sure when the slate is cleaned? after qfs or semis?

as far as I know based upon actual tourney rules, never.
