Default Other MLS Games - June 23-25

People may despise the marketing behind it but the rivalry week games can be quite good.

    Friday

Dallas @ Houston 9pm - GAME OF THE WEEK Houston at home is a beast. Dallas isn't out of second gear yet. Something is going to give in this game. Houston 3-2

    Saturday

NYCFC @ NYRB 1:30pm - These two teams really really do not like each other. Red Bulls will pull this one out. 2-1 for NYRB

Colorado @ Atlanta 7pm - Atlanta is very good at home and will pull apart the Rapids defence. 4-1 for the 5 Stripes

DCU @ Philly 7pm - two teams that are either good or bad. This week, DCU seems to be better. 2-1 for DCU

Montreal @ Columbus 7:30pm - may the world just swallow both of these teams whole. Baring that, I think Columbus pulls back into a better rhythm. 3-1 for the guys who look like New York cabs

Vancouver @ Minnesota 8pm - Its the ugly looking turf derby. Vancouver is a bit more settled in the midfield but this is looking like a draw. 1-1

Orlando @ Chicago 8:30pm - Orlando is never boring but travel from Seattle to Chicago in 3 days ain't going to help. A big win for the Fire. 4-0

SKC @ LAG 10:30pm - LA isn't very good at home. SKC is kinda anemic offensively. 0-0 draw

RSL @ San Jose 10:30 pm - A whole lot of meh. SJE is better enough at home to take this one. 2-0

    Sunday

Seattle @ Portland 10pm - Hype fest. The best part of this game will be the opening tifo. 1-1 draw

The first 30 minutes were pretty fun to watch but after the goal, NYRB had no answer.

Fueling the Red Bull supporter outrage was Marsch took part of the week off to take coaching license training in Europe. He's flat outright said he wants to coach in Europe. Frankly, I don't think he's pragmatic enough.

    NYRB has no plan B.

The future is starting to look a bit bleak for NYRB folks. Lots of questions about how much more time/resources the RB mothership will put into the NY operation. That had to be some part of the abrupt Ali Curtis departure. If NYRB starts to slide in terms of on the pitch performance, the overlords may lose even more interest.

I'm enjoying the curious mix of gregarious opinionated Northern Ireland BBC radio guy and Dan Gargan on the Atlanta TV commentary. A lot of people get annoyed with Alan Green but his curious mix of self deprecation along with vast knowledge of setting up how a play occurs is nice in a north american industry that is quite full of itself.

Given the evening's schedule, it looks like I"ll find myself catching the last 30 minutes or less of a few matches.

Just saw Martinez' goal for ATL, and now tuned in to Montreal vs Columbus in the 59th minute.

Montreal pretty much played its starting lineup in Columbus, and is now losing. After the 3rd CBUS, Montreal took off Donadel & Camara in prep for Tuesday.

    And on another note

In other news from that Philly DCU game, Acosta given a straight red for something nobody quite understood

    Then this happened.

The ref actually pulled back his red card.

    This from the pool reporter

Chicago is right up there with us. 4-0 62 minutes in. Orlando not showing much of anything.

This is a must watch at 0:50. Has to be the worst save attempt I've ever seen in MLS.

That's funny. Who needs VAR? Just ask the players.

I feel a bit sorry for him. They just can't even buy a goal at this point. I'm not sure how much longer he'll be employed.

    Follow up on Olsen

The guy has the best face in all of MLS. Hope he gets a job when he gets fired sometime in the next 18 months.

That Loons match was a fun one. A rare goal from Ex-Red Tony Tchani.

With Chicago hot on our heels, isn't this the first time the Eastern conference has been putting in a strong challenge for the Supporters Shield?

Looks to be pretty even in actual wins between East and West.

PPG wise, TFC and Chicago are at 2pts per game mid way through season. That's incredibly high in MLS. While I don't see TFC and Chicago maintaining this, I don't see West teams getting anywhere close to 2 pts/game either.
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.

I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’

And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

    -Eduardo Galeano
