Default Other MLS Games - March 3 - March

    Friday

    Loons @ Portland 9:30 pm
Portland supposedly returning to Porter ball which is kinda how the Loons want to play. Going to be a few goals in this one. I'm thinking 4-2 for Portland.

    Saturday

    Chicago @ Columbus 2 pm
Last year's two punching bags in the East. All the hallmarks of a 1-1 draw.

    Dallas @ LAG 4 pm
Game of the week. The LAG retool meets the team missing their best player. Likely one of these teams will have to beat by any team hoping to win the shield. 2-1 for LAG due to the travel Dallas put in this week.

    NER @ Colorado 6pm
ALMOST the Bad game of the week. NER has defence issues. Colorado has offence issues. Game in theory will be only in 1 half. But both teams are not all that much fun to watch (listening to Mariner if you have MLS Live isn't much fun either) 1-0 Colorado continues the story from last season.

    SKC@DCU 7pm
DCU towards the end last season were an attacking power. SKC is going to press once again but still lacks somebody to score but Dwyer. I'm thinking 2-1 for DCU here.

    Seattle@Houston 8:30
Houston putting Cubo Torres front and centre. The return of Dempsey and the hype machine on the other side. Would be nice if Houston won but I suspect it will be a comeback from behind win 3-1 or something like that for the Fight&Win crowd.

    Montreal@SJE 10pm
The Bad Game of the Week. Old dudes vs MLS 2.0 flat 4-4-2. Ugly ugly ugly. 1-0 for SJE the most likely thing with a 33rd minute Wondo goal scored off his knee being the only highlight.

    Sunday

    NYCFC @ Orlando 5pm
Shiny new stadium will be fun to look at. Watching Larin and Kaka and Villa and Pirlo will be great. Defences? Not so much. I'm thinking a 3-2 win for the home team.

    NYRB @ Atlanta 7:30 pm
Full 55K stadium but the tactics will be even more impressive. High press European style vs high press South American style. NYRB will be playing the victim and underdog role all week but they also have the travel from Vancouver tonight. 3-1 for Atlanta

    Philly@Vancouver 9:30pm
And look who we play in the next 2 games after RSL? Underachievers play underachievers. Tie 1-1

The games that really peak my interest is the Loons - Portland game and ATL v.s NYRB. I'm curious to see the new kids on the block and how they shape up. The Dallas LA game I can see becoming a slug fest. I'm just glad opening weekend is here.

I predict that Montreal will beat SJE. Drogba is gone and that much improves the team. At least one goal will be scored by Piatti.

Anyone have an MLS Live login they want to trade for a Sportsnet Now (all sportsnet channels and sportsnet world) login? Alternatively, anyone have a stream for tonight's game?

The YouTube channel is amazing! How did you find it? *edit* My wife and daughter have gone to bed so I've now tucked into a couple fingers of Jameson and a have a roaring fire as I watch this game! Thanks again!

So....about the Garber talk. He's in Portland tonight. On Sunday he's in Atlanta. This makes sense - the opener and the big opener in Atlanta.

Tomorrow? He's at our game vs. RSL.

Now, assuming there is actually a TSN crew at that game (and I'm not sure there will be), do you think maybe he's there to talk at the half with TSN and thus silently acknowledge the HUGE TV ratings TSN got for the playoffs last year?

    Just thinking...

I see a long season for The Lions. But in that first year the club gets a free pass. In 2007 I was happy just to be at live professional football with like minded football lovers!

As some have pointed out, its not that the Loons are a worse expansion team then other expansion teams in the past - its just the league is sooo much better then it was even 2 years ago.

From what I've seen in the 2nd half they are trying to understand how to play together has a team. They don't look too bad in attack when they get some sustained possession.

Defensively, it's another story. And midfield wise, I feel like they are getting run over by Portland which outside of Chara doesn't exactly employ a lot of ball winners. Against a SKC or other team with a really aggressive mid they are going to be in huge trouble.

Edit: total demolition in the last 10 minutes with Portland putting in 3.

The Cubo Torres of Chivas has returned. Only took him 2 years to score a goal for Houston. But it sounds like they finally have a coach who believes in wide attacking play.

The most MLS of games so far was the DCU SKC game - penalty save, shots off the post, saves off the line, dodgy tackles, crap field, DCU supporters singing their hearts out with hope of a new stadium. How it ended with no score I do not know.

The overhead shots of Orlando's stadium look like something out of the EPL (except deeply purple). And that wall looks impressive.

Yeah the only real take away I'm getting here is Orlando's defence is better and NYCFC's is not.

We play Atlanta in a month. Their press is still a work in progress. A lot of speed on the sides. I think their defence and the DM's in particular can be had.

All the fans are standing, like its College Football. Good for them. Going to take awhile for them all to get loud but give it time - this ain't soccer moms.

ATL has improved even during the course of this game. They have the components but let's see how they deal with all the fun extras MLS provides (travel, refs, etc).

I was impressed by the stadium and the attendance. Wow. I wouldn't worry about their support, some of their fanbase are probably new to professional soccer and others just need time to gell.

NYRB generally starts slow so W here is better than usual. If AU did better with their opportunities they'd have 3 goals. Something for both sides IMO.
