good. Serves their fans right if you ask me.

Where does Deadspin find all of these morons?
Spain have called up David Villa
You'd have to think that billionaires and companies like MLSE are complete idiots if what they are saying is true. Short answer: they're not. The general public may be idiots (look at who really bought during the dot com and housing bubbles) but Billionaires are generally smart people who hire smart people.

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
I think so. The press release doesn't mention him being dropped but doesn't provide a full list.
http://www.lfv.li/news/news/presseko...2c53644240894fIn the squad for the matches against Albania and Spain are a total of 25 players. Michele Polverino is suspended for the first game and Fabio Wolfinger is only on call. Daniel Kaufmann, Sandro Wieser and Marcel Büchel are not on the other hand, but the goalkeeper is Benjamin Büchel, who currently has no club. The injured Simon Kühne and Niklas Kieber are also missing.
Wow, for Deadspin to do a whole article about this (which I just read in its entirety -- sad) and not to mention SUM, nor the recent Adidas extension of their MLS sponsorship deal (six-year, $700 million) is pretty shocking. Honestly, there some very interesting topics to be researched in depth. Like the ever-increasing MLS franchise fees; comparisons with other footy leagues (MLS decent in attendance, but pretty poor in viewership); possible differences between old (cheap) and new (willing to spend) owners -- and so much more. But that article was pretty useless. Too bad the Soccernomics guy was willing to add his opinion to this poor effort.
I wouldn't have given the Deadspin article much thought but since they had the Soccernomics guys, you can't totally dismiss it. But since USMNT and MMNT likely drives most of SUM's profitability, not mentioning it was a major oversight.
Adidas deal is probably a bit overhyped since some of the monies is going to youth development rather than all to MLS coffers. From adidas perspective, it's still a bargain, get 20+ teams for the same price as one top team like Real Madrid.
Looking at MLS standalone, it is similar to Toronto housing. If you're a landlord of a condo/house, the rent being received isn't likely enough to cover your costs but since the value has gone up quite a bit in the past decade, the operating losses haven't stung as much. The real edge MLS has over Toronto real estate has been the expansion fees.
Deadspin is more right than wrong, but is kind of picking fly shit out of pepper here. I mean, you can do it, it can be done....
The issue is really the wildly inflating/inflated values of certain types of assets, and sports teams/assets worldwide are a subset of that (som is Toronto real estate). MLS is a tiny fraction of that.

Epic troll job by NYRB support last night, who got the Whaler's mascot, Pucky the Whale, to show up for their game against NYCFC

Michael Bradley gave an interview this am on Sirius XM's Football Show, talking about TFC, USMNT, family, etc. He sounded more relaxed, more confident and more upbeat than any other interview I've heard with him. It was impressive.
Good article from ESPN about TFC's great season so far...
Also, watch the vid which explains how Moor reached out to Dempsey while he had his heart issues earlier this year, and Hasler's motivation in his career..

A pretty good summation of the recent smack down of the Pro/Rel for USA folks case they think they can take to the Court for Arbitration in Sport.
Paul Kennedy is actually a lawyer too.

So we all better hope the US gets a couple of wins in October - the 4th place playoff against Syria/Australia is going to be smack dab in the middle of the MLS playoffs. Even if the dates are figured out to help, that's a trip to Asia in the middle of things.
^Syrian soccer is problematic, in terms of finding a "rooting" interest.

Strictly in soccer terms, Syria is a cinderella story, but Australia is the much likelier opponent for the fourth place Concacaf team.
lncredibly bad luck for us. If it happens that way.

We will know the fate on Oct 6. If they can beat Panama they will be in (barring a miracle by T&T and an upset by Panama over Costa Rica). Even a draw isn't necessarily bad. The US should be able to handle T&T easily, they just can't afford to not take points against Panama. If they do lose to Panama, then the next best situation is T&T beating the US and Honduras beating Mexico to knock the US out completely. That scenario I can't see playing out though.
And Toronto FC may not be the only team in the world affected by the intercontinental playoffs.

Gilette Stadium getting a new turf in time for TFC vs NE.
“Years have gone by and I’ve finally learned to accept myself for who I am: a beggar for good football.
I go about the world, hand outstretched, and in the stadiums I plead: ‘A pretty move, for the love of God.’
And when good football happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don’t give a damn which team or country performs it.”

“[There were] a lot of those little black pebbles and everything, a little sand, but what can you do?” Pats running back James White told reporters Monday. “It’ll be good to have some new turf out there, but hey, whatever’s out there, like Bill [Belichick] says, ‘You’ve got to play on it.’ ’’
Heh. Black pebbles for soccer maybe? Did anyone hear anything from the Revs about the surface? Maybe that's why they're so low in the table...
