Default Help tracking down Mo Johnston

    Hey guys,

Not sure if this is a the proper forum to post this, but I'd like to ask for your help.

I'm working on a story looking back at TFC's first season, and I'd like to interview Mo Johnston. I've had a hell of a time tracking him down thus far.

If any of you know where he is, know how I can reach out to him or if you can put me in contact with him, please get in touch with me. I'd really appreciate it --and I might even cook dinner for you as a thank you.

PS: I meant "tracking down" in the thread title.

    Cheers

I remember reading an article in The Scotsman last year that said he was living and coaching in West Palm Beach, Florida. I'll see if I can find a link...

His first port of call was nearby Murray Park, to watch Rangers Under 17s v Dundee United Under 17s. Although sacked by Toronto six years ago, he remains involved in the game, coaching and scouting where he now lives, near West Palm Beach, Florida.

    Salman Rushdie's house?

    -—--------

I'll be interested to see that story.

I think 2007 Mo had some serious successes - Dichio, Brennan and Robinson were all above average veteran signings, plus he traded for Cunningham, got Wynne for a song, plus he drafted Edu (well, it was obvious, but he didn't screw it up, like Payne did with Farrell later). All while dealing with a bunch of guys who wouldn't play here (Conor Casey and Paulo Nagamura for sure, there were others).

That team was as competitive as any expansion team has been until it got killed by injuries midseason.

Mo in 2008 and 2009 was a different story....

He is likely working with Martin United Soccer Club in Palm City/Stuart Florida

    http://www.martinunitedpredators.com/mo-johnston

You can likely reach out to them at their Twitter @mu_predators

    or info@martinunitedpredators.com

at the very least they will know how you can contact him if you haven't already.

(all the information is from a simple google search and is publicly accessible and is just a starting point and not accessible by him directly. Just want to clarify I'm not posting anything that is hidden)

yup. I've always thought in terms of roster construction he really got a bad rap his first couple years. we had some genuinely good players and a lineup that should have made the playoffs 1-2 times between 2007-2009. The coaching was the shit that really killed us.

He chose the coach. He also set up the culture of the club which was toxic, broken, and so ethically challenged many MLS clubs and youth clubs and academies wouldn't deal with Toronto. TFC was the laughing stock of MLS on how not to run a sports organization. Many quality coaches and players would not come here despite the great support. It took Lieweke coming in literally starting all over again with mostly new staff and a new culture to bring this club success.

I hope that John's assignment is not to do a puff piece but rather some of his good journalism that really looks at the highs AND the lows.

I remember Mo giving Lombardo shit one day relating to the bike Lombardo rode to practice. No idea what it was about, but learning more anout that, is the only thing about Mo that would interest me now.

Now we know where his testimony would have fit in. Did you ever get a hold of him?

great piece by the way. Fill that out with some other stories from over the years and you could have a great history book for the club.

You might not be far off the mark there. He is so hated by Celtic fans he cant live in Scotland. They even attacked his father, a senior, their bitterness runs so deep.

I'm not joking about this, the celtic support have stopped just short of putting a contract out on Mo (in fact maybe they already have for all I know) so I dont think his contact info would be readily available

Your best bet would be to have someone deliver him a message with your contact info and have Mo do the contacting. Maybe someone at the TFC front office could help you with that. Failing that, perhaps Mo Edu has his number...
