    ^Yes please!!

(I would have thought the TFC fans would be united in agreeing that PKs suck!)

btw van Basten went a lot further than just proposing the shootout. Love the orange card, personally. Soccer does have a crime and punishment problem -

Why would run-up shootouts be better - honest question?
Toronto 'til I die - but I think they're trying to kill me.

Ever see the movie "Once in a Lifetime", about the Cosmos?

In it Cruyff and others were very nostalgic about the shootout, they thought it was more fair, and a lot more suspenseful, than PKs.

The whole PK thing is bizarre in soccer - I mean, imagine it was basketball, and I gave you the choice of watching two different competitions - one with guys taking turns shooting free throws, the other with guys playing 1v1. Which is more like basketball? Which would you want to watch?

North America will be the most flexible with rule changes happening in sports all the time. I'm confident the rest of the world respects tradition enough to backlash as we suspect.

Personally I would prefer a scenario where each team has to remove a player every 3 minutes of overtime until someone scores. Gives lots of room for strategy.

I definitely agree about basketball, but basketball is played until the game is won.

I have not seen "Once in a Lifetime" but I will check it out. Something about run-ups doesn't sit well with me. I guess I'd have to experience them in a meaningful way before I feel differently.

I guess my point was more that run-ups shootouts are still shootouts.
