Looks a little worn, but certainly not as many divots as I think many people were expecting.

Also, re: rain – I'm not sure if you guys have forgotten, but there's an entire suction and drainage system installed under the pitch – it sucks down and collects any access water and gets rid of it. Water never pools anywhere or saturates the pitch unless it's torrential.

So that really shouldn't be an issue.

Well, you can see where the sidelines were for the CFL field, but otherwise - that looks pretty good from a distance.

The ball skips off wet grass quicker and lower. But moisture didn't help Oduro or Mancosu or Piatti run any faster. I don't think a pitch that was slightly softened after Sunday would hurt us.

But they've got our money now, so it don't matter anyway.

they water all new generation long-blade plastic pitches pregame and halftime so the ball travels and bounces closer to true grass feel.
Usually they over water and players start to slip.

The pitch was very good tonight. The BMO groundskeeper should get a bonus this season.

Why? If you're bored with this thread, stay away. The groundskeeper has done a great job so far. The next test will be a season with a normal amount of rain during & just before games, especially the CFL games. We know this year was unusually dry (especially on game days) compared with previous seasons. We will be vigilant, and we will definitely praise where praise is due.

Another test will be scheduling in future seasons. Should be easier, w/o major construction happening early in the season. However if they push most of the TFC home games early (when the weather often sucks) to free more time for scheduling CFL etc. during summer & early fall, they will hear about it.

I mean put to rest the worrying about it. If people are interested in it from the technical side, or to, as you say, remain vigilant, that's fine.

What I meant is if they can make it perfect to play on only 3 days after a CFL game, and in the pouring rain, we know it's 99% likely not going to be a problem in the future.

If it rains hard during a CFL game, that will be the toughest test. (It rained before the Grey Cup, but they could protect the pitch with the new tarp, which was a great addition to their back of tricks. It didn't rain during the Grey Cup) We shall see!

They've also got the new 'grow cover' which is going to go on sometime before the 10th – that's yet another thing which will make the pitch as good as can be expected.

Actually, there was a lot of stuff coming up in the second half and during extra time. E.g. saw Hagglund slip on a header and go back afterwards and tamp down the spot.

There was a patch about 10 yards from the centre circle towards the north that was turning into muck and you could see the ball stop shorter (we are used to a very slick technical surface).

That was a real test of the field and it came through but it was far from perfect near the end. They've got 10 days to get some recovery in.

So, no, this thread can not be put to rest.

    ^ Sigh.

Fantastic job by the grounds crew and a weird statement from me but thanks to MLSE for the investment and business plan in the roof, the second deck, and the resources to make this possible.

I don't know why they water the pitch when it's raining. Thought I saw some second half sprinklers. Outside of that....

    Great job all season.

OR go into the thread to give props to those that invested and put that roof in. And to those that worked all year to deliver on a promise and who delivered not only a great tweet but 2 great marquee games within 3 days of each other.

You've got to think some may even read this thread. Might be nice to let people know when they do a good job instead of looking over their shoulder hoping they screw up.

    Just saying

It rained almost every day from the Grey Cup until last night and the field was still serviceable after 120 minutes of play. I'm feeling pretty good about the groundskeeping now, especially with the experience they've gained this year. If we have a pitch disaster of a pitch once every three seasons, I'd be okay with that.

For a while there in the second half our passes looked soft and short, and we were giving up the ball cheaply. I kind of wondered if the rain and pitch condition factored. Players adjusted, and we got back to our possession leading to the (corner for the) Hagglund goal.

Anyway, it was as good as was possible, and I do not fault any of the BMO crew for anything. They got the field into as strong a position as possible for the Grey Cup, got a somewhat worn pitch returned to them, and forced as much recovery as biologically possible into the root base.

There are still poor-pitch scenarios that may reveal themselves in a more normal (weatherwise) season, but this year the groundshare has been made to work.

Bullshit. The pitch played just like a normal pitch would when rainy. You're just picking nits at this point.
