Vancouver will have an easy switch to grass - it is a travesty that it isn't already grass.

Problem for Toronto is I don't think 40,000 seats will get you into the WC. Maybe a couple of obscure teams in an expanded field - possibly but certainly not a marquis match. Much more likely they put grass in Skydome and go for 55,000. Canada would play in Edmonton or Vancouver.

FIFA's minimum capacity requirements for the group stage (which is all that Canada is getting) is 40,000. The Rogers Centre is out of the running as it was removed from the bid. The only stadia that might host are Olympic, Commonwealth, BC Place and BMO Field (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada...Cup_bid#Canada)

Wow - 40 k seats that is insane to me. I was at WC 90...80,000+ at every game in Orlando it was bedlam. Imagine how hard it will to get tickets? It'll be about $500/ticket minimum.

There was this tweet from the BMO Field grounds crew a few days ago. That grass looks about as thick as the hair in the middle of my scalp. There's only so much you can do with technology; it's been a long cold winter. I predict the pitch will be a bit muddy for the first part of the season. Hopefully they can thicken & strengthen it enough before the Argos start.

^^^Looks good so far! This week's weather should be helpful for the grass.

Hats off to the groundscrew. Didn't think it was possible to see grass like that in February. Unbelievable job!

I just went by the stadium. With all the scaffolding and seating in the way I couldn't tell if it was us or Colorado practicing (if I had to guess it was Colorado), but the grass looks green as hell. Kudos to the groundskeepers.

I felt kinda bad for the field during the Tigres game.
I can't recall it ever looking that shitty (not including the field turf, lol)
Grounds crew has a lot of work to do.

Field was shit tonight, has taken a real beating over the last week, with the cold and all. It was coming up in chunks vs. The Tigres. Was very hard to play up the middle. Hopefully a few weeks off allows things to improve.

Does it maybe need a full replacement?

At least playing in December for the Cup, you've had a full season for the grass to grow and take root. Playing on it in March... well, at least now I appreciate the utility of the season-opening road trip we go on.

Felt bad for the grounds crew. They did their best, but it may have been an impossible task.

Loved the guys racing onto the pitch when the ball was up the other end to stamp down divots.

They have 3 weeks now to get that pitch sorted. Can we all pray to our various deities that we get some decent weather until then?

Watching the replays/highlights, the shots from the endzones up the field................ yeah, the middle of the field looks like a mud bath.

For sure the field played a factor in some of the shots being off target (especially the free kicks for Seba). The targeting is so dependent on a good planted foot, and it's clear our shooters couldn't dig in and get stable.

It also affects how the players take off from a standstill / going in a different direction. IMO that contributes to Mavinga being a 1/4 step behind on the goal and it causes Zavaleta in particular all sorts of problems.

There were some crazy hops too, which hurt a team trying to play on the carpet.

Usual caveats apply. No criticism of the staff, especially. The root base is just not strong enough and that's down to the wear and tear starting in February.

Towards the end of the game Gignac made a few runs and cuts that ripped up big chunks of turf. 3 matches in a little over a week in early March will reek havoc on any turf.

The groundscrew did an amazing job pulling off beautiful grass like they did, but yeah, mother nature won. Hopefully we start next year on the road, it only makes sense and makes the latter half of the season at home more fun.

The boys wont know what hit them when they get to mexico and can keep their feet planted lol

IMO TFC has one of the best grounds crews in the league at BMO. BUT there is only so much that can be done. 3-4 week road trip in March down south to start the season is probably the prudent thing to do.

In some respects I am so glad that TFC is out of BMO with current scheduling, for about 3 weeks*

*3 weeks which right now are trending in a good direction for the grounds crew to put some TLC down*

Very interesting. Too bad that the Argos will be the first to play on the new pitch June 23rd. It it hasn't rooted very well yet, and/or there's a downpour during their game, it could be a worrisome start for the new grass.

Argos pre-season home game is yet to be scheduled also. Would be some time in June presumably. Maybe they can play it at Lamport ..
