I am pumped that Brad Guzan is coming back to the MLS. Sorry that he will be missing the trip to BMO Field this year.

Not only do the Loons get a 3K safe standing area, a portion of the initial season ticket holder proceeds will go to preserve Loons in the State.

    Which leads me to ask:

WHY DID YOU REALLY NICE PEOPLE GO AND HIRE THAT BUFFOON ADRIAN HEATH?

Looks like they're going to have one of the nicest stadiums in the league too.

Minnesota not signing any DPs to start, instead signing stronger midrange players using GAM and TAM. A bold strategy that could payoff or backfire. Should be interesting to see how they do.

Not sure where to put this but our captain has jumped with both feet quite willingly into the whole Muslim Ban thing.

BTW, Beitashour although born in the US is a dual US/Iran citizen. He shouldn't have issues with this ban....in theory.

I was pretty unhappy with his initial statement that came off as superficial dodging the issue, so I am glad he made clarifications and came out more strongly on this.

I just wish he would stop parroting the safety line, as this policy has nothing to do with safety both in intent and in practice. Repeating the safety argument ends up reinforcing the bullshit premise.

Need to be a bit sensitive to the length of the limb Bradley is on here.

I'd like to know how many times in FIFA history a MNT captain has so publicly opposed his country's leader

IIRC Lillian Thuram made very similar comments about Sarkozy in the mid 2000's when he was captain. It was over a similar issue too.

That said, still very uncommon and a pretty big deal. Glad he did it.

Wow that is pretty brave of him considering how much of the US supports all the crap going on. Very cool to see him leave no way to misinterpret how opposed he is to it

Part of the issue for US Soccer is this ban pretty much precludes hosting the World Cup in 2026 and the Olympics in LA in 2024. There's some BIG money behind those two events.

GE already made some noise today. I suspect somebody from Coca Cola is going to have a word as will Visa and Proctor & Gamble.

As a US-American TFC fan, I'm doubly proud of my double captain. And I agree he's sticking his neck out.

The NBA as a very international league has also been making some noise.

Canada co-hosting a WC with Mexico would be too awesome.

Wow, 12 cities have submitted application for MLS expansion teams.

What a change from the league contracting in 2002.

I'm also glad that at least 3 Canadian clubs are in the league. With so much demand from US cities, the chance of any further Canadian cities getting in is zero.

^That is really interesting, and impressive.

I think they missed the boat in San Diego. There is already a hugely successful expansion team there

The growing drama coming out of the Sacramento bid is nuts, if true. APPARENTLY one of the co-owners iced out the other Sacto Republic co-owners and put in the bid with his own ownership group. Team put out a statement saying if SR wasn't referenced in the bid, it violates current agreements and was done without the authorization of the club.

That IS nuts. MLS had better put a kibosh to that right now if it wants to be viewed with any integrity. That sets a dangerous precedent with other ownership groups.

Oh the other groups are very happy for the perceived lock to get a team to have come unglued. They want this to continue.

To tell you how important this bid is to that city, the mayor has called in both parties to hash it out ASAP.

And to think the MLS essentially folded in 2001 and all was ready to walk from it declaring it a failure. It really is amazing to think where this league has come and is going. I kind of wonder if they had followed through where the sport of pro soccer would have be today. Would the indoor game have seen a rebirth to the heights that the MISL saw in the 1980's or would be stuck with fly by night leagues popping from time to time with teams coming and going each season.

Very interesting. But after reading more about it, not really surprising. Geoff Cameron often slammed Hillary Clinton over the past year, and expressed support for Trump. Then after the election he tweeted: "The people have spoken! Its time for America to come together. We live in the greatest country in the world today and it will be tomorrow!" As Cameron actually lives & works in the UK, that one didn't go over too well.

But still a bigger deal, as complaints about the new travel & immigration restrictions are really very widespread, even in the sporting community.
