It's in the MLS team's interest to tighten this crap up as well.

Anyone with even the dimmest view of the future can see developing your young guys is far more important than getting borderline 2nd stringers minutes.

I'll say it again: at a certain point you just have to break through and the 2nd team can't be your safety blanket.

I don't entirely agree with this... it's worth noting we had one of the youngest (maybe the actual youngest) teams in the USL last year, and if I recall correctly a higher percentage of minutes played by Canadians than both Montreal and Vancouver's USL teams.

The biggest issue right now is we have too many CBs on the TFC roster. One or two of them need to be moved. Guys like Mannella and Babouli, or Hamilton, who never would have received a first team contract in the first place if we had an intermediary step between the academy and the first team back then, were always going to get minutes with TFC II this year.

I guess if you aggregate different people's opinions without regard to specifics you can come up with whatever counter intuitive logic you want.

I am deeply concerned the average Canadian has some sort of gender identity crisis identifying as half male and half female.

Edit: Let's not forget depending on how you define "kids" those two opinions may not even be opposed to each other. You can have non-first team prospects which are still old enough to make an impact.

Mannella, Hamilton, Thomas, and Edwards called in for Canada U-23 camp, playing friendlies vs. Guyana (May 15th) and Grenada (May 18th) senior national teams. Also called in was Manny Aparicio, who we released over the off-season, looks like he has yet to find a new club.

And Mark-Anthony Kaye. He came up through the academy and played for TFCII last year. We also released him during the offseason.

Once again disappointed with the team. Why is Aparicio and Clarke getting a call? Where's Charbonneau, Bouchard or Riggi? FFS, Gagnon-Lapare is listed as a fullback.

Well at least we can actually have this discussion now. Prior to it was simply thinking of enough names to form a squad.

Mark-Anthony Kaye is an interesting one, because the Reds still retain he home grown rights. With him it was determined with some of the incoming players this season it would be better for his development to play somewhere else. Jason Bent mentioned this.

Hamilton is seeing some minutes this year with TFCII. He has started a couple of games if I remember correctly. He didn't dress for the home opener but he has been around.

Good to see the young Reds come away with the 3 points after their 1-0 victory over Richmond in front of packed house of school kids. Sal Bernal has the goal in the 75th minute.

Ah well, you know kids will be kids. The FO handed out boomsticks in the final 30 min or so, and that created a lot of noise. It wasn't really directed at the field, but I think it had the effect that they wanted. The kids in the middle of the stands seemed more into the game, but sadly the teachers started pulling these same kids out of the stands first to get back to the busses. It was a good day to take off work - footie in a smaller venue under a blue sunny sky. And a win to boot!

Thought he looked better today too, a lot of nice touches and hold up play. Needs to keep getting game time.

Here is the article from the USL's website. Jordan Hamilton also scored in the victory.

One more game vs Grenada then the lads are coming home.

    JHam
    Manella
    Edwards
    Thomas

    That should help v Pittsburgh.

The U23s beat Grenada 3-0. Edwards scored the first.

Gotta wonder how close he is to a first team contract, he's been lights out this season so far. As a supplementary roster player he wouldn't count against the cap, we would just need an open roster slot to accommodate him. Certainly appears further along than some of the young guys already with TFC.

Another great thing about him is he gets that production form a midfield wing position. He does not need to be put as striker to get the goals. He got 2 goals and 3 assists on the CanM23 Caribbean tour that just finished.

TFC II lost 2-1 to Pittsburgh. On the bright side, Malik Johnson scored his second of the year, another brilliant solo goal.

We're seeing the difference in quality between someone who proved himself in USL (like Babouli) and someone who was signed before the existence of TFC 2 (Mannella, Aparicio, Hamilton).

Anyone know whats up with Edwards? wasn't in the 18 yesterday and the team twitter account didn't clarify. Was he given rest post Intl duty, is he injured or could he be close to an MLS deal?

Most likely rested. Really hoping they loan someone to bring in Edwards. He's depth that we require.

Lost 2-1 yesterday. Nice goal by Brian James in stoppage time. Harsh result as Hundal scored in the 17th minute (0:54 in the video) but it was called back on a frankly terrible offside call.

TFC II Starting XI: Roberts, Charpie, Taintor, Thomas, Boskovic, Fraser, Mannella (c), James, Jobe, Bernal, Hundal.

Still no Edwards. Not on the bench either. I bet he's in the squad for Wednesday.
