Is TSN out entirely or did they just say they didn't intend to renew?

CBC is attractive but can you imagine this same scenario on a Saturday night? There is no way we'd be displacing a hockey game no matter what the ratings.

I am sure TSN/Bell feel stupid losing Canadian MLS TV rights that will attract a lot of sponsors since it's much younger demo compare to their biggest TV program (CFL).

CBC are probably laughing hard right now and can't believe they got MLS rights for cheap.
    is this a fact?

I still wonder about all this speculation based mostly on a graphic on CBC's web pages.

CBC is losing HNIC after next year. That's the whole reason they are interested in MLS.

i would say the price is right. CBC can't spend in sports, they have been cut to the bone.
CBC lost HNIC two years ago. Rogers deal with them is for first 4 years, but given rogers have taken hockey off city on sundays, rogers have shown they don't have network with city, so unforunately they will likely have to extend with cbc.

futbol will be saturday afternoons, or else streamed on cbc website.

It's not clear what will happen, but it's about risk sharing. CBC may not be able to underwrite HNIC in a way that makes sense for Rogers. Also Rogers may get more aggressive about how they use the NHL platform (ie may try to see if they can take the flack and take it 100% to Sportsnet on Saturday night).

Rogers needs to start taking the fight to Bell with this deal, so far it's been a disaster financially and strategically. The endgame is for Rogers owned/controlled content to be zero rated on Rogers plans and devices (ie not count towards data caps). HNIC would be key to that strategy.

Do we know that the CBC is going to be getting the MLS rights? Who will be getting the CPL rights?

I thought Bell Mobility got slapped by the CRTC for that same strategy with Bell TV?

    Pretty sure CPL is TSN.
I'm too lazy to find the article.
With the close CFL ties...it would make sense.

I might be alone on this, but if CBC is looking for Saturday afternoon sports programming, i'd be super into that.
    3pm starts were my fave.
get up...have a productive morning...tailgate for lunch. Game. still have a Saturday night.

It's not official. The rumor is that CBC is picking up MLS and TSN is going to get CPL when it starts.

I still think CBC is planning to make Sunday nights Soccer Night in Canada, assuming they do get the rights for MLS.

I always enjoyed the CBC telecasts in TFC's early years.

Scott Russell is a natural for them if they return. Very enthusiastic about soccer, even coaching a bit in East York girls house league. Andi Petrillo got herself noticed doing TFC and she'd be a huge asset if she was part of the team. Maybe even get Nigel Reed back in the booth.

Greg Sutton looked very much at home hanging around MLS Cup events as part of the TSN crew and, while not as polished as Craig Forrest, certainly looks like he could grow in an analyst's role.

And then the wild card - Vic "Altidorable!" Rauter.

There's a lot to work with there.

Hob-nobbing with the well placed over MLS Cup week, the CPL was mentioned a number of times in discussions and there's nothing but skepticism about it. Everyone wants to see it do well, did not hear anyone show the least bit of faith it can work. General consensus is that MLS clubs in Canada present an insurmountable hurdle.

I will not be surprised to see CBC and TSN sharing the rights for MLS crazy as that sounds but both netrworks have been doing sharing for events like The Olympics, and The World Cup

Report out of Montreal that RDS has lost the French-language rights to TVA Sports, who already had the local Impact rights, giving TVA the rights to all Impact and MLS French-language broadcasts.

The report also claims that Sportsnet, not CBC, is grabbing the English-language national rights. TSN is out. It says CBC/Radio-Canada were interested in the rights, but at the end of the day were never really that close to getting them. But it's not made clear in the report that a source is confirming Sportsnet is getting the rights, it sounds more like informed speculation. So it's still unclear.

So what's the deal with Soccer Night in Canada and CBC? Getting ready this early for the CPL? Could Sportsnet be licensing MLS to the CBC like they're doing with HNIC?

    edit: Err, hold your horses

Ugh, I really hope TSN doesn't get MLS again, they did a shit job last season. CBC please! They should be putting this out there front and center every week on a regular channel to build up our audience. Regardless, CBC putting soccer on prime time weekly is good news for all franchises and domestic leagues. A successful CPL will be great for TFC's future growth.

Oh dear. Nigel was so much easier to listen to. Russel and Vic are truly inoffensive but lack an edge I like from a call.

    They could do much worse.

Fuck TSN and Bell! I hope they don't get rights especially since they don't bother showing MLS on main channel until TFC playoff run.

Big news this. TSN commits to full coverage of both TFC and Vancouver. Friday night games in the spring. Saturday night games the rest of the season.

    Increased coverage.

If you like it, thank Jozy Altidore.
