No way in hades that a Bogers owned MLSE product goes back to CBC without it being some sort of HNIC style desperation deal by the CBC - and they arn't making those anymore.

Who do you think is the party at the table pushing this so called growth strategy? This Saturday night thing has to be all about TV as opposed to the gate. Where the gate has not really been affected, we have actually seen growth on that front, gone are the days of smoke and mirrors game that was played with the announced attendance.

“What the world needs is more geniuses with humility; there are so few of us left.”
I would have to think with Rogers and Bell ultimately being about tv, this strategy will fall by the wayside at some point. A ratings first approach will be taken. With this Saturday thing it appears advertising dollars are just being left at the doorstep. To be honest where 250-300K could be very attractive to some advertisers they would not even considered it at 80-100K regardless of how discounted the buy would be as it's simply too small time for them.

Some of us remember when the Jays were...well...not so big anymore.
Like just 2 1/2 years ago.
https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/eh...210515088.html
370K for a season opener.
The base for Jays is low. Like half of the CFL low.
Its been energized since but that rise is fuelled by them being a contender.
You got to also remember that 20 years of not contending takes its toll too.
TFC had a golden goose, they killed it, the TV rating are abysmal in part because of that.
The best way to get the brand back is to put Giovinco on national television. The CBC would allow for brand building.
You know what I'm sick of this tv ratings crap for people to come on here and say "see no one cares about TFC or the MLS because look at the ratings", give me a bloody break, TSN hardly advertises when these games are on, TFC games are all over the bloody place in terms of which chanels they are on. There is hardly any mainstream media attention given to TFC, TFC MLS has to compete with how many world wide soccer leagues that are shown on Canadian TV , how many baseball leagues do the Jays have to compete with or the NHL or the Argos or the Raptors? TFC and the MLS are in a unique situation when it comes to competing with eyeballs , when these other teams have all this competition to deal with then we can start talking about TV bloody ratings until then forget about the useless comparisons!
Actually i was going to mention, i noticed the TSN advertising for MLS so much this season. They do a ton of work advertising the games during week and getting people to watch.
Sportsnet does sweet fuck fall. They stick it on the worst network, and don't promote it. Its like they are holding their noses when they have to show it.

I would be curious to know to know what the baseline rating for the Jays is right now, as I would think it would be naive to just use this season to determine it? Baseball including the Blue Jays is the most volatile of any sport when it comes to both ratings and attendance.
Even just last weekend with the Twins series. Friday drew 1,430,000, Saturday 1,020,000 and Sunday 1,450,000. That's a drop and rise of over 400K during the 3 days.

There is so much that goes into making the TV product successful. Time slots, advertising, production quality, etc...
I think that the norm in this league is ratings haven't caught on. TFC no different really...
Looks like TFC vs NYRB got a 0.8 rating over night. The twitter seems to think this is the best MLS rating of the year. Does anyone know how this translates into actual views? Apparently means just over 1 million?

That's pretty good to hit 0.8. A Premier League game on NBC on Saturday afternoon August 30th between Man U and Hull had a 0.7 rating and 1.2 million viewers. So I can only assume 0.8 translates into higher viewership numbers than that 1.2 million.
Regular season NHL ratings on NBC are often in the 0.8 - 1.0 rating range - so for an MLS game to be in that range is encouraging helped undoubtedly by the HUGE lead-in from the NFL on Fox.

Fox is doing wonders in the states for promoting MLS games. US fans are really happy with fox.
Almost 1.3 million viewers. Not bad for MLS!

And we almost beat Sunday Night baseball! https://twitter.com/SportsTVRatings/...31577948004352
Fox strategy of piggybacking off NFL games seems to be working for MLS and it wasn't available in all US markets. Though, number posted is window for both games rather than standard average per game. So, it could be over/under stated for an individual game.
If they did that consistently through Sept and October, and audience would be built.
