I don't think there's any space left for him. We have several potential candidates for CB at the academy and a (if healthy) first team prospect who is much more technically gifted.

Just can't see is getting the most out of him on the team. Move him on and he can develop / we can get value. Win-win for all involved.

Larson was hinting Williams might be on the trading block.

I'd rather trade Hagglund or Zavaleta since Williams is a better 3rd option, but that being the case, his value will be higher and therefore more likely teams are interested in him. Makes sense.

Would really be open to bringing in Dilly Dukka to Toronto FC. He's unattached but we likely are at the cap

With the depth of Moor, Perquis, Williams, Hagglund, Zavaleta, Simonin (starting to train soon) and a guy like Thomas with the two's i wouldn't be surprised to a CB dealt.

Probably a nothing-story but the rumour mill in Italy has Borriello attached to Toronto again.

Heh, pretty much. If we don't have space to sign Ricketts, Borriello definitely isn't happening.

I jus think they dont have much value, they are a dime a doz in this league, look at the ex TFC cb Maund sp with RSL,he is a starter for them and looked really good on saturday,he was lost when he played here,i think NYRB could use a CB,maybe we can ask for SAM in return..

Question (maybe Kurt can help with this): Is it possible for clubs to trade players that aren't necessarily on first team contracts? Say we traded Skylar Thomas to NYRB for a First Round Draft Pick (totally hypothetical) - is that possible, does it function similar to how all major NA leagues do in terms of movement of players that are "in the system"

Skylar Thomas doesn't have an MLS contract so I doubt he could be traded to an MLS team for an MLS asset.

couldnt we trade his rights? But then would he still play for TFC II? I mean like player rights of players playing outside the league are traded but they're never already in the system of the club that traded their rights away

I get where you're coming from but I'd say TFC couldn't trade his MLS rights as his MLS rights don't exist.

Look at this in the rule book
Unless claimed on waivers, a player who was drafted by a particular team through the SuperDraft and did not sign with the League, is placed on that team’s “College Protected List” until December 31st of the year after the draft, after which the team loses the priority to sign the player.
Thomas didn't sign with the league. He signed a USL deal.

    Now there is also this
    (F) USL PRIORITY PLAYERS

In addition to Homegrown Players and College Protected Players – clubs may have priority for up to three players from their USL affiliate.
So maybe TFC have him protected and could maybe trade those rights but until two teams make a trade like that we won't know for sure.

I don't remember us using him as a CB. Didn't we use him as a full-back and sometimes defensive midfielder?

Zavaletta can also play forward if you look at his college stats - he was probably more effective as a striker than CB.

i thought he did it with zavelta, whom I dont think is mobile enough for a fwd but then again Danny ran so slow I was convinced I could get to balls from my seat before he could

Not sure if its STILL possible. MLS may have tweaked rules as they do but it has precedence, when TFC traded Josh Janniere's rights to Colorado

I think we have to do something. Even if we only lose Jozy up top for the summer, that still leaves a huge hole in our attack, and we have no cap space to make a move.

Trade Hagglund or Williams for GAM, use the GAM to buy someone down to create more cap space if necessary, then sign a striker on a year and a half long contract in the summer window using TAM to fit him under the cap space created.

I would point out that both of our "why do we still have these people around" strikers that we got rid of but are still on our cap space came as mid summer replacements.

i.e. Bez better do a better job of judging this striker

What about Mo Babouli? Can't be worse than Luke Moore?

What about Benoit Cheyrou leaving and giving us cap space. I am a big fan of him and when he does leave he will leave a hole but his contract will be up this year (maybe mid-summer???) and he may miss a lot of the year due to injuries that we are already seeing. I doubt he will be back next year, he is 34 now.

People on the boards loved to hate Moore, but he actually played well with Seba in a hold up role, and, if Gomez was going, should have been kept. Babouli is a different type of player - more Dero style - and is not yet to the standard of Moore or Gomez. I love it when he gets minutes, but he's the future, not the present.

In theory shouldn't TFC have some salary cap relief come June/July as we signed Gomez and if I remember correctly his contract ran till June.. so the summer transfer will see us bring in a reinforcement or two.

That being said I think outside of a true winger or most pressing need is a back up striker for Altidore, as IMO Giovinco will not be called out to the Italian national team unless a bunch of strikers get hurt from now till the start of Euro
