I don't think any off the current DP's are going anywhere barring another major Jozy injury and then he may be moved in the offseason.

Blanco is either a 4th DP slot, funny TAMMY GAM shenanigans, a loan or some new mechanism.

They aren't introducing any new mechanism.

There's a week left in the transfer window, it would have had to be announced prior and if one existed someone would have used it already.

I mean for next year, I see no way we can pay a fee of anywhere close to 3 mil and not have him as a DP. Even with 1.3 mil in TAM (plus whatever TAM is left this year) you would have a mil+ to spread over the contract before even beginning to pay the player.

It makes no sense but then again neither does having Keane, Dos Santos, Gerrard, Van Damme, Lletget, Cole, Zardes, De Jong, and even Boateng/Kennedy/Magee and be able to fit under the cap with no worries so.....

Well they have expiring DP contracts so they could be more creative. If we knew one of our DP's was leaving after the season i could see the player coming in and then taking that slot for next year. They also had a shit ton of allocation from selling players this past offseason.

The cap is going up next year, 7% or whatever the escalator is

Any major cap increase will have to wait until the next CBA as it's bargained with MLSPU.

Take it up with the Union. They had they chance to go for a major increase but went after free agency instead.

Now they have free agency, perhaps next time they'll go with a major cap increase! Woohoo, party time!

Agreed. We are cap tight, which is a little disappointing but nonetheless not surprising.

We need a bit of a retool in the offseason.

Torino has to create buzz because they just lost their meal ticket.

Journos with connections to agents say one thing.

Journos with connections to TFC management say another.

The thing is i'm sure we kick a ton or tires every year, of those tire kicks a few turn into discussions, of those discussions a couple turn into serious discussions and in the end maybe 1 or 2 actually happen.

Just depends on the journo as to what point they decide to report something it taking place.

Many of the TFC beat reporters were very skeptical of the Gio interest until Molinaro broke the signing, same with bradley as i believe Rollins was the first to report something was going on.

I see West Brom when they signed him he was regarded as a winger, but he seems now to be more of an attacking mid and maybe that was one of the issues they had with him.
Yeah good points. I did wonder if Pulis may have had something to do it with it, he's probably not a big fan of fancy South American players lol

The point that agents and FOs simultaneously work their separate lines of communication to the journos is a good one. Contradictory info can be out there, neither are "right" or "wrong" until the deal is made (or not).

Larson's piece on our search for an attacking mid: http://www.torontosun.com/2016/07/27...r-window-shuts

To summarize, he says we aren't signing Blanco because he can't fit under our cap. We have targets within MLS but we'd probably have to give up a good young player, which the team doesn't want to do, so at this point an international signing is looking more likely. Team is trying to get it done before the August 4th transfer deadline. And this hint is dropped:

One target, the Sun has learned, is an exciting attacking midfielder who has competed internationally for a European country that’s currently top-30 in the FIFA World Rankings. The player’s current club is struggling financially.
Ideas? I'm guessing this would be a TAM-level player.

Short Pants scouting leads me to

    Nicolae Stanciu

    I don't think he'd require a DP transfer.

A player that would be a lot more interesting Valter Birsa. (not top 30)

lol. I just came to same conclusion. If you infer top 30 European country means a nation closer to 30 than 20, and recently competed in Euro 2016. Lots of Romanian clubs aren't doing very well.

This would be unreal, but do we really want another player who will leave mid-season for international duty?

    Clint isn't happy in Seattle.

I know it won't happen, but I wouldn't mind moving Jozy and bringing in Clint to play the true #10 role. Don't know if Sounders need a striker though.

Clint is a second striker, just like Seba. They couldn't play together.

Apparently Stanciu has been attracting interest from Southampton, Anderlecht and Lorient, and he has a €5 million price tag on him... seems unlikely we'd be able to land him.

I can see Clint playing under Seba...but not sure if his passing is up to task.

    Edit: wrong quote
