He's not the disaster everyone here is painting him. Great speed and versatile, spent a season deputizing as a fullback. He's not a natural finisher but he can get up and down the line.

Squad player, maybe create some danger late in the game. If he's played upfront as forward I'll be disappointed but otherwise we could do worse. Depends what we're paying him.

We don't have much width right now. He's not the dangerous hole player we sort of need right now, but beggars etc.

Ricketts will have to do a hell of a lot to convince me if he takes playing time away from Hamilton.

Ricketts is basically Jackson with a little less finish and a much lower likelihood of being sent off. If he comes in for 100-150k rotation piece he will be useful.

There is an "if" in there. There will be squad rotation. The sched is getting busy.

    My problems with Ricketts are

    1. He's a national team player. In a league that doesn't take breaks for international games these are the types of players you want to avoid. Especially when they're nothing special and you already have 3/4 internationals on the team.

    2. He's a winger and probably not much of an upgrade over Babouli/Endoh/Edwards. I'd much rather put that $ towards an AMF that will push Osorio for minutes.

Unless Vanney has ideas to revert back to the 4-5-1, I'm not sure why Ricketts is even necessary. He's not an attacking winger and wouldn't really be an upgrade over Babouli and/or Endoh. Unless Vanney wants to revert back to last year's unbalanced diamond...

He was sitting in the box behind 126, looking cranky af. Altidore was there with him for a bit. Bradley's female companion, who I assume was his wife, got him to sign something for a fan after he initially was looking bitter about it.

I didn't even think of making an Edwards/Ricketts comparison until you brought him up. How the hell are we giving Ricketts a contract over Raheem and Raheem doesn't even count towards the cap!!!!! Wow seriously bad by the FO

Yeah I wouldn't touch Ricketts at all. Probably will be overpaid and not much better then the kids we can slot in now.
Rather see the kids get a good look with all the injuries. Not going to know what you got in them if they never get enough solid back to back time on the pitch.

The only thing we know with reasonable certainty is that we are no longer on the hook for Herculez Gomez's salary. There will be room for at least one player. If we bring in others, we might have to use allocation money or make a trade.

Some cap space will come from being likely able to trade 1 of Simonin, Williams, Hagglund or Zaveletta.

And about Ricketts....at least he isn't Mix Diskerud.

I hope it is too, otherwise I might join the "Bez out" side if the window closes and we do nothing.

did he say WHY they are not hunting? does he have faith in his 1 goal per game system?
Did he mention the merits of having so many back line players?

What he is saying is that we can go start getting our Ricketts jerseys printed as that's what is on the signing horizon. I didn't expect much here anyway.

What's more important, and not his job, is what we do in the trade department. Having an excess of central defenders is something Bez has to turn into something useful. If not, then

I read on MLS.com today that Red Bulls are potentially looking at adding a big name signing to help in the forward department. They also said they are looking to do this within the league. Pure speculation on my part but what's the chances that they could be after Altidore?. Can't see it myself but you never know. Is that not where he started his MLS career?

Altidore did start his career with Red Bulls. NYRB will need to get rid of a DP, likely Gonzalo Veron who has been a bust before making a move for Altidore.

NYRB has gone off the big name DP scheme though. They prefer to build the team using small DPs. I think NYRB will go after a TAM sorta DP instead of a big money guy like Altidore.

The article said that they currently only have 2 DP's in Veron and Wright-Phillips. I agree with you though, don't see them going with a real big money signing.

On a side note.....Orlando fired Heath!!!!!!!!!!....... that's seems to be a bit of a shocker

My bad. Looks like Kljestan is either under TAM or NYRB is bringing his salary down using allocation money.

The only reason I would be against moving Altidore this season is because of the claim that he and TFC have apparently figured out his hamstring issues (injuries being the main reason I'd want to move him). There was a report that he saw a specialist and they discovered a particular problem that hadn't been addressed before, and in his media scrum this week Altidore said in retrospect his hamstring injuries have been mistreated in the past. It would be so TFC to trade Altidore to another MLS team only to realize we traded him right when he became a reliable player health-wise, and he goes on to play 30+ games a season with another club.

If he picks up another significant injury this season I'm in favor of moving him. I don't see the logic in keeping him if after this he still can't stay healthy. I hope he can though.

Psssst, I was at the TFC II game just now and Edwards was signing autographs for the kids. I overheard 8 year old Billy say that he's close to signing a first team contract.

If you're TFC, you're doing everything and anything possible to make this deal.

I dunno... he's 32 soon and seems to be on the decline, and he makes 240k a year. This seems like a risk, especially given our cap situation.
