Lovely to receive these messages but I have not yet announced my retirement & am still in discussion with @impactmontreal about my future.

"Not yet announced" and "still in discussion" ... ya it's basically a done deal.

on the flipside this also sounds eerily similar to the tweet defoe sent out right before he said he was committed to TFC.

Let's hope Drogba retires but leaves Montreal hanging until March.

If he does retire, then he clearly has little interest in MLS and Montreal. Most players would be motivated for another season after the way he was tearing it up after his arrival. He was a beast last year.

As a fan of improving talent in this league I don't want him to retire. I want to see what 1 full season of DD could do. I just wish it wasn't for MTL but regardless, having more teams with players of this caliber will only make things better in the long run. Early exits like this hurt our league status globally.

he's 38 next yr, a physical player like him has a lot of wear and tear in his body esp considering he spent a large chunk playing a a very physical, quick league like the pl. Remember his last season at Chelsea he was an impact sub, it's a whole different ball game having do a preseason and then be expected to be the teams main striker for 90 mins each and every game. Also at his age he has to start thinking about the next chapter in his career and with an opportunity to return to a club where he obviously loves and is revered, probably a no brainer unfortunately for Montreal fans. One thing I do wonder, Hiddink is only there until end of the season, what happens if the new high profile coach wants to bring in his own crew of coaches, where would that leave him. Perhaps Roman has given him assurances re his position in that eventuality, but he can be pretty ruthless in his sackings.

His probable retirement seems to be creating a lot of interesting waves in IMFC fandom. Some people wanting to move on and a LOT of people ready to canonise him. Almost "touch my baby and heal him" sort of stuff.

Weird shit going on down there.
