Down here @ BMO right now, chatting with a couple of the workers.

They say if everything goes to plan, the south end roof will go up tomorrow.

This will be the biggest erection Toronto has seen since the CN Tower.

As I've said before there is the possibility of another "Argo's presence" at the Stadium/CNE grounds.

I saw them put the roofing on the East side already. Some sections already had it on Friday

    Deets

TORONTO, Feb. 20, 2016 /CNW/ - Members of the media are invited to witness a feat of engineering that will dramatically transform the skyline surrounding the City of Toronto’s historic Exhibition Place grounds when PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto) raises the roof on BMO Field’s south concourse on Sunday, February 21, 2016.

Assembled on site as one massive structure weighing over 490 metric tonnes (980,000 pounds), the south canopy will be lifted in tandem by two Mammoet lattice boom crawler cranes. With a combined lifting capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes, the two massive cranes will simultaneously lift and then crawl the 377 by 68 foot canopy from the foot of the south concourse for incorporation into the roof structure that will cover the east, west and south stands.

    What:

    Interview and photo/video opportunity

    When:

    Sunday, February 21, 2016, projected 7:30 – 8 a.m. start time **

    Who:

PCL senior project manager Neil Barrows will be periodically available for interviews during the lift.

    Where:

Exhibition Place parking lot, to the south of BMO Field, Toronto ON

    **Important Instructions**

To adhere to the strict safety protocols required for this critical lift, while balancing the opportunity to provide access to members of the media, media will not be permitted access to the construction site, however PCL has coordinated a media staging area outside the perimeter of the construction site, as detailed on the attached site map.

A critical lift is an orchestration of precision and patience to ensure that every element goes exactly as planned.

At 7 a.m. the lift’s specialized procedures will be reviewed with crew members, with the commencement of the lift most likely to begin at/after 8 a.m.

The duration of the lift procedure could take between three to four hours, however it could take longer or be pushed back dependent on weather or other site conditions.

wow. a lift like that must take months of planning, if not years. Impressive. Elon Musk is right; Engineers are the closest people to human magicians. Their work is kindly appreciated and very valued!!

Remember it has to be high, high up so that temp stands for Grey Cups, NHL outdoor games (and dare I say it MLS Cups?) can be installed... keeping sound from supporters in and projected across the field is not a profit consideration for MLSE...

That's not the final position is it? I still think it needs to be lowered from the pictures (still held up by the cranes). But yeah even the final version is pretty high up

    Never mind, it is.

Yeah, not really what I had envisioned long ago when so many of us were calling for a roof to be installed. A bit of a letdown, but I still think it's better than no roof at all. Having a canopy over the 3 stands should still create a more intimate feeling, which just might add to the atmosphere. I have no doubt the overall volume within the stadium should be louder now, but I don't think the south roof is going to do much for improving our ability to sing in a more unified manner. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

We shouldn't look too much into the height of the canopy. Fc Porto has a canopy which is probably higher than ours and if I remember correctly, it seems to bounce the sound, but that might just be tv tricks.

The south canopy is pretty wide... Goes way back over the concourse. I think people that are in the middle of the section will never get wet.
