That view towards the South from the bar at the north end is going to be very different in a few weeks. A lot of sky is going to be gone. The south end is going to look more imposing when facing it at the beginning of the game and more inviting for the home team.

Wow – look how high the roof is on the West side ... there'd still be room to add more seats up there if they ever felt it.

Still don't know if I like the idea of the North end coming down, but once this work is finished the place is gonna look damn impressive.

Yeah I noticed that too. The roof seems more like an umbrella lots of open spaces for winds and rain to get through.

Thx Kaz. Makes total sense for sure, especially now when you see the added supports in the recent pics :-)

I though BMO was retaining the field rights. Just new jersey sponsor was in the works

Who is there right mind would want to bear witness to the hapless 76ers. Not a good sample to judge, even more considering the NFL playoffs were on.

Lol where have you been the last decade? Curling ALWAYS draws monster TV numbers... nothing shameful about losing out to curling in the modern TV climate. If you're going to argue that basketball is dead in Canada based on the ratings for one Raptors game against Philly (the worst team in the league btw) MLS must have been dead for quite some time since it draws far, far worse on less number of games (which seems to be a common argument when it comes to Argos vs TFC ratings). I remember distinctly that a TFC game on TSN rated the same as a CIS basketball game on SN1 this season so would you say that CIS basketball is just as relevant as MLS soccer? If you answered no, then stop trying to use the same data to legitimize your argument against another sport.

my point would be why is bmo is redirecting their advertising dollars from a sport that has huge participation numbers and is growing ... to basketball which has a fraction of the participation and that is largely irrelevant in canada

Again, aside from dodgy TV ratings, you've provided NO EVIDENCE AT ALL of basketball being "irrelevant" in Canada. Please stop attacking other sports and let's get back to the topic at hand.

Bball at the pro level is very relevant. Its like curling - nobody plays that for very long (average club membership is probably 3 years) but lots of people watch it at the highest level.

BMO is looking to get into the suburban urbanites (people who live in Brampton but think they are like the people living in the condos around the Dome). Bball is their game.

Which is why I see either Kia or Scotiabank taking over the sponsorship. Both those firms are more interested in minorities (however that is defined in a city where more people are visual minorities then not) and see a comprehensive soccer sponsorship plan as a bridge to that.

This is a massive issue for the club ... who it going to replace $6ish million in sponsorship per year that will suddenly vanish. That around 20-25% of total club revenue totally disappearing. If this club was supporter-owned the club would be in massive trouble financially and MLSE isn't going to live with loses forever.
    Hopefully, some corp steps up.

I think the west side is just higher so it's level with the east. Remember, they have to take out the lights and switch to football stadium lights that go along the sidelines rather than our current setup of lights in the four corners of BMO.

i think ur going to get wet at the very top rows upper decks and first 10 rows in lower deck, even though those seats are under the roof.

Yes, please and THANK YOU! I almost had to vomit at my screen from all the tripe being trumpeted on the previous page of this thread.

So from looking at the pictures and comments, it seems that the west-side roof, which looks WAY too high compared with the west-side seating and existing mini-roof, is actually symmetrical to the east-side roof, which of course has seating going much higher?! I hope that's not just due to aesthetic reasons. I haven't heard any hints of adding temporary seating above the west side for major events, only south-side. My guess is that east- & west-side roofs & structures have to line up due to the way everything ties together over the south end.

As many others have mentioned, I'm concerned about resulting lack of protection from wind & rain in the west (like the south). However, as far as I can see in the latest pictures posted a few pages back, the west-side roof actually seems to extend quite a bit beyond the back of the seating, can anybody who has been there confirm? That would at least help with the rain, which often comes in at an angle from that side due to prevailing west winds.

Union talk is off topic. Basketball ratings in ratings thread.

BMO Construction. I guess they need to build faster to make this thread on topic.

Any news on the surrounding infrasructure that might change due to all the extra traffic they "expect" (lol argos and traffic, you dont hear that too often)

Will roads changes? Parking lots? GO train tunnell access improvements?

Is the construction at the GO train complete, do I still have to walk down 10kms down the tracks?

    From GO's website

Construction started in fall 2012 and is expected to be complete in 2017

In addition to the lengthening of the playing surface, the renovations will add a new Argos locker room and renovations to the visiting team locker room to handle the needs of both soccer and football teams. Shoring activity is now underway at the former site of the north stands, which will be rebuilt in a new configuration several metres north of their previous position.
Wait, so the north stands are being rebuilt??

Based on everything that has been said thus far.. I would assume they are mistaken. No new North Stands are being build. A patioed area and a temporary terrace during TFC games is apparently being placed that will be about 4-5 rows high.

I would be very surprised if any thing else was built.

^^ They may be talking about the 3-4 rows of 'Premium' seats that were in front of the two boxes on either side of the north stands. They were charged at a premium price and having 3-4 rows of removeable seats similar to the racing seats on the sidelines are easy enough to have there.
The shoring may just be getting done since they have to re-do the entire north end anyway (regardless of seats being there) to be removable/retractable.
