I think it looks kind of cool, it will look better once the construction is completed. It will only look stupid if the seats aren't red, they have to match the look of the rest of the stadium.

I thought the additional seats were gonna be on top of the south concourse. What happened to that idea?

It's like bringing out really expensive folding chairs for Thanksgiving dinner. With some expansion foresight this Frankenstadium could have been avoided.

Do we really need more than 30,000 for soccer though? I think having this temporary seating is a good option. If they were permanent seats, the stadium would only be 3/4 full (if that) on most game days.

I think they are for the Grey Cup and Hockey...I don't believe they are for the MLS Playoffs.

It was interesting the way the Anfield expansion was staged. They built the new roof over the old stand, then the new stand in behind the old one. Then the old one was torn down this summer. I wonder if there is any thought to another expansion stage that would tear down the upper west stand and have a new built right up to the roof, the way Anfield was done?

It was more of a reference to comments about this being a mish mash of seating. The stadium seating #s seem good right now, and we'll have to tolerate these temporary seating for special events.

They got a liquor licence for the MLS playoff dates, so they must intend to use them
That's all I'll say about that.

Now a new terrible effect is all over the BMO field which is all those empty temporary seats for our first playoff game. They should just put them for sale or cover them up, it'll look just bad since I'm sure some new fans will be watching a playoff game for the first time (hopefully games).

Yes hopefully MLSE put them up for sale. its a lot of seats though. The temporary section has 40 rows which is even bigger than than the 35 rows of the new East upper stand. So by my calculation about 6500 additional seats. A sellout for a game would be nice - with approximately 36,700 at BMO.

I snatched this pic from Twitter. From the looks of things they are almost finished the frame.

Due to the wide concourse behind the regular south end, the temp seats are also quite far away from the pitch.

They're going to sit 8,000 people on scaffolding...sounds legit
Also, those upper rows are so far outside the stadium, it's alittle funny.

...so that is the only reason why the south end roof is so damn high? T^T

Yup that is why that south end roof or canopy is that high, most stadiums in Canada that house CFL teams have always been built with empty end zones so that temporary seats can be put in when the stadium hosted or hosts the Grey Cup, therefore with this mentality in mind we've had some of the most ugly stadiums built over the years throughout Canada always built in a way so that temporary seats could be put in for the Grey Cup and BMO Field is no different a stadium design compromised in order to build the classic Canadian temporary seat add on stadium. Imagine the nice design we could have had if they just built a proper stadium without having to worry about a design that had to include temporary seating in it.

The laws of physics dictates that with that much scaffolding you could probably even seat elephants up there

The laws of physics also say that the glass floor in the CN tower can hold 8 elephants, but I still get the hibby jibbies.
Im sure this scaffolding marvel is safe... it would just be unpleasant (I think) being that high up and being able to see the ground below.

This right here! There are so many different configurations you could have had with 30,000 seats and the design team chose the ugliest one. The east and west stands towering over a tiny south stand, a non-existing north stand, gaps in every corner except for one.

The south end roof does absolutely nothing. Why did they bother building it?

I wonder how slippery those metal stands will be at the hockey game on New Year's Day.

Indeed, you would feel far away from the pitch and action. In my mind it would have made sense to permanently add a second deck on the south end, thus covering that massive gap then convert the lower bowl to safe standing. But, we gotta make due with what we have..

Many a game I considered jumping to my death from the back of the south end during games years ago.... and I could see myself doing the same during a CFL game.

For different reasons, mind you. But both involve despair.
